Do You Know an Outstanding Educator?

The National Educator of the Year Award honors an individual who has enhanced the quality of education in the field of speech and debate. Among other qualifications, nominees must be active classroom teachers in the field of speech and/or debate. If there is a coach and classroom teacher in your district who goes above and beyond in their contributions in and out of the classroom, consider nominating them for the award!

Free Speech and Debate Tournament: Register by November 9

Member students have the opportunity to compete in our NSDA Online Springboard Series, a series of free tournaments brought to you by the team that plans the National Tournament. The tournament will feature a middle school division and an open high school division for students of any experience level. You can register through November 9 for the tournament on November 14! Schools and students must be NSDA members to enter the tournament. There is no entry fee for participation. This series is sponsored by The Julia Burke Foundation.

Safe Tournament Resources

Whether your tournament is online or in person, there are important steps you should take to protect attendees and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students.

Adopt the NSDA approved harassment and discrimination policy or select a similar policy approved by your school district.
Check out our Adjudicating Speech & Debate and Protecting Students from Abuse courses created in partnership with the NFHS. These courses don't require an NSDA membership to complete. Direct your assistant coaches, judges, and even varsity debaters to take these fundamental courses by sending them to www.speechanddebate.org/judge-training.
