Interpretive Volunteer Updates

Dear Volunteers and Interns,

Thank you to our volunteers and interns who helped make our presence at the Pacific Orchid Exposition a success and continue to connect with visitors during Magnificent Magnolias. It has been a busy month at the Gardens and I look forward to what March brings. Tomorrow I hope you'll be able to join us via Zoom for the Annual Member and Volunteer Briefing and next week, the Cloud Forest Interpretation Training that will take place on March 5.

Members and volunteers of the Gardens of Golden Gate Park are invited to a briefing about our accomplishments over the past year and our plans for the future. There will be time for your questions in the second part of the program.

Cloud Forest Interpretation TrainingTuesday, March 5, 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm Orchid Pavilion, Conservatory of Flowers

Discover the wonders of the misty, mountainous cloud forests and the remarkable plants that have adapted to live there! This in-person training module will prepare interpretive volunteers to connect visitors to the many Cloud Forests of the Gardens, from Conservatory's Highland Tropics gallery to the Botanical Garden's Southeast Asian, Andean, and Mesoamerican Cloud Forest regions. This training will be relevant whether you prefer roving, leading interpretive stations, or leading public tours. Note that you are welcome to bring a snack or dinner for yourself to this evening training.

Meet-up: Nature JournalingMonday, March 11, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pmLibrary Terrace, Botanical Garden

All volunteers are invited to an informal meet-up group focused on nature journaling. Bring a notebook and supplies and join fellow volunteers for this group inspired by Wild Wonder Foundation. To help you prepare, download their Quick Start Guide to Natural Journaling zine.

All Gardens volunteers are invited to our next Book Group event. The next book the group will discuss is The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light by Paul Bogard.

We're also excited to begin recruitment for our upcoming Interpretive Volunteer Training. This is an exciting time to welcome new volunteers to join the program. The training will take place on five Tuesdays from April 16 through May 14, from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm each day. Please help us spread the word.
