December 2016 |A monthly publication of the National Speech & Debate Association
Dear District Leader,
Check out how we can help struggling programs in your district, nomination forms for 2017 awards, and much more below!
District Tournament Preparation »Are you ready to set up your district tournament? If you haven't already, be sure to list your dates on the district tournament calendar as soon as possible. Log in to the Points Application, then click "Tournament Dates" in the left side menu. Next, you will receive an email 4-8 weeks prior to your tournament with a form to notify us of your district awards and a link to prepare the registration website. If you'd like to work on the website ahead of time, please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org to request your website link.
Student of the Year Nominations » It’s that time of year again! The Student of the Year Nomination Form is now open. Encourage members of your district to nominate a graduating student for consideration here. Chairs, when you report the tournament results, you'll also let us know who received your district's Student of the Year Award. That individual will be added to the list of contenders for the 2017 William Woods Tate, Jr., National Student of the Year Award.
New Coach Webinar » Spread the word in your district! New coaches are invited to join us for our second new coach webinar with our special guest, President Don Crabtree. The webinar is Monday, December 12, at 7 p.m. CT. New coaches will enjoy a brief presentation regarding our competition rules and district tournament series and then have the opportunity to ask Don questions. New coaches just need to click here the night of the webinar to join.
At Risk Programs »As a district leader, you know your area schools the best. Is one of your district's speech and debate programs at risk? Let us know if there is anything we can do to advocate on its behalf by contacting Membership Manager Deano Pape.
Share Your Insights »Have a topic or strategy that you’d like to share with the rest of the speech and debate community? Consider turning it into an article for Rostrum! Visit our Publications page and use the “Submit an Article” tab for guidelines or to send us a piece to consider.
Educator of the Year Award »Is there a member of your district who you’ve witnessed enhancing the quality of education in the field of speech and debate? Nominate them for the Educator of the Year Award! The due date for consideration has been bumped up to January 20. Please note, you will need to upload three separate letters in support of your candidate, so start planning now!
