It’s hard to believe, but we’ve now been bringing you our monthly newsletter for a full year. I truly hope you’ve found it valuable and filled with useful information on all things “graduate”! We’ve worked hard to keep you informed about the many exciting developments for graduate students, from resources and events to career workshops and numerous other opportunities at Seton Hall.

As the semester and year draw to a close, please be sure to join us for our 2nd Annual Graduate Student Wine and Cheese Social at Christmas at the Hall. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the year and engage with your fellow graduate students, as well as taking in the lighting of our beautiful campus Christmas tree.

Keep an eye out for some exciting upcoming events in the Spring semester, including our Welcome Week receptions for new and continuing graduate students in Schwartz Building during the first week of classes and the 2nd annual celebration of Graduate Students Appreciation Week in early April.

| Grad Student Day at Women’s Basketball Game on February 8 |
We are scheduled to cheer on our Men’s Basketball team, so let’s hear it for the Women’s team! You’re invited to a “Graduate Student Day” at the Seton Hall Women’s Basketball game against Xavier on Saturday, February 8. The game will begin at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1 p.m.) Join us for a pre-game tip-off reception with light refreshments, beginning at 12 p.m.

Current SHU Graduate students can request up to 2 free tickets to the event. Tickets are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Request tickets now!

| Graduate Student Spring Semester Welcome Receptions |
The Office of Graduate Affairs would like to take the opportunity to welcome our new and returning graduate students at a series of welcome receptions at the beginning of the Spring 2025 semester. We are holding 4 social events with the hopes that students can drop in to socialize with their fellow students and meet the Graduate Affairs team. The welcome week receptions will take place on January 15, 16, 21 and 22. Light food and beverages will be provided. Students can drop in during any of the sessions during the scheduled times.

- Tip-off at the Prudential Center is scheduled for 12 p.m., with our Graduate Student pre-event starting at 10:30 a.m. which is also at the Prudential Center.

Keep an eye on your Seton Hall email as tickets will be dispersed electronically. Finalized details for the pre-game event are forthcoming and will also be communicated via email.

Professor DiMeglio Awarded New Jersey Society of CPAs 2024 Exceptional Educator Ovation Award
The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has named Danielle DiMeglio, CPA, MBA, a 2024 Ovation Award winner in the Exceptional Educators category. DiMeglio is director of graduate accounting programs and instructor of accounting and taxation in the Department of Accounting and Taxation of the Stillman School of Business. Learn more.

Seton Hall Master’s in Public Administration Program Hosts Deputy Mayor of Newark
The Department of Social Work and Public Administration (MPA) recently hosted an inspiring kickoff event that brought together faculty and staff members, students, and alumni for an evening of networking, learning and a shared meal. Spearheaded by the MPA program director, Prof. La’Tesha Sampson, the event featured three dynamic guest speakers, each sharing powerful insights into social justice, personal resilience and community healing. Museum Professions Student Interns at Mercer Museum

Speech Language Pathology Program Organization Receives Honors
Our Graduate NSSLHA chapter (National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association) has once again achieved Gold Chapter Honors. This prestigious award recognizes the chapter in its commitment to advocacy, fundraising and community service. The chapter continues to dedicate itself to advancement in the field, professional development and volunteering within the local community. Graduate students and faculty in the Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy (PPFT)represented Seton Hall at this year’s Greater NY Behavioral Research Conference. Former diplomacy and international relations M.A. student, Lylian Pagan, has distinguished herself in the political sphere. With a degree in national security, she pursued a master’s degree at Seton Hall University, specializing in international security and U.S. foreign policy in Latin America and the Caribbean. Using this knowledge, Lylian was offered a position on the vetting compliance and research team at the Democratic National Committee.

As the holiday season approaches, networking events such as company parties and professional association trainings offer settings to foster professional connections and expand your network. These gatherings provide an enjoyable environment to interact with colleagues, clients, and industry peers. -
Update your resume and LinkedIn Profile: During the break is the perfect time to update your resume and professional profile. Add new jobs, internships, and volunteer experiences you have acquired during the Summer or Fall semester. This is also a great time to take online courses to acquire new skills and enhance existing ones that you can highlight on your resume and LinkedIn profile.

Start your Job Search: If you are graduating this Spring, explore what opportunities are available to you after graduation. Start by researching companies that align with your career aspirations and interests and set up informational interviews with staff at these companies. Utilize Handshake and LinkedIn to find new opportunities. Visit your Career Center for mock interviews, resume and cover letter review to help you become more confident during the application process.
