Bike Month Downton Bethesda in white letters against blue background. May 2019 is to the right in white letters on blue.

Welcome to Bike Month!

It's May today and you know what that means...I am going to be a day late with the Justin Timberlake "It's gonna be May" joke (I had to get one in!). No, really, it means that it's National Bike Month!
In addition to our fabulous Bike to Work Day event on Friday, May 17 (for which you should register), we have some other really great bike rides and classes to help you get ready for an entire summer of commuting by bike!

Join hundreds of cyclists from 6:30-8:30 a.m. on the corner of Woodmont and Bethesda Avenues (near the pop-up bike lane) for FREE breakfast. We will also have speakers, a DJ, a raffle with tons of prizes including a brand new bike from Griffin Cycle, and, of course, a Bike to Work Day t-shirt for those who registered before May 10
The Washington Area Bicyclist Association wants to take you for a ride - a guided bike ride, that is!
The group will be meeting at the Bethesda Metro Plaza near the Bikeshare Station at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8.
The ride will end at Silver on Woodmont Avenue at 8:00 p.m. with a Happy Hour for Bike Ride Participants! Be sure and bring along proof of participation in the bike ride and because you will receive a FREE classic Margarita, along with other food/drink specials!

For the Bike Ride event, you will need to register and the cost is $10, unless you are a member of Capital Bikeshare, in which case it's free!
From 3:00-6:30 p.m. on Bike to Work Day, stop by Silver for over 30 food and drink specials and get to know other people who bike!
If you weren't able to stop by the morning event, we will also be there with shirts and other give-away items!
Be sure to bring along proof of your registration for Bike to Work Day so you can get a FREE Classic Margarita!
We are working to make it as easy as possible to bike to work on Bike to Work Day, with the pop-up bike lanes and the May 8 Community Bike Ride, but we recognize that it can still be daunting to ride in urban areas. For that reason, we are holding a Confident City Cycling Class taught by a certified WABA instructor!

The class will be meeting at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1 at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad Parking Lot (5020 Battery Lane) and will end with a short bike ride around Bethesda.
