Dogs are pretty smart. They can differentiate between larger and smaller rewards, but our furry friends are more likely to choose a smaller reward if they receive a positive cue from a human. That's according to a new paper published by Assoc. Prof. of Psychology Erin Colbert-White, Devin Anderson ’22, and Matthew Maus ’24 in the American Psychological Association’s Journal of Comparative Psychology. The paper, titled “Positive Intonation Increases the Perceived Value of Smaller Rewards in a Quantity Discrimination Task With Dogs (Canis familiaris)” is the culmination of years of research into whether human cues can override a dog’s natural ability to differentiate quantities.

Logger Women's Tennis started their season with a huge win over reigning Northwest Conference champions Whitman College. It's the first time the Loggers have defeated the Blues on the court since 2009. "[This victory is] a testament to the work, effort, and heart the team has put into being the best they can be," said Head Coach Matt Simons.
