| Tanaya Winder at Santa Fe Prep
"Imagine you have three lives. What would you do with those three separate lives? Are there ways to combine them? What fears are involved in following those dreams? How can you overcome them?" - Winder
Tanaya Winder believes that everybody has a gift they've been placed on this earth to share. Tanaya's gifts include teaching and writing (mostly poetry) about the love and fire within us. She will share her gifts in a performance for our Upper School students on Wednesday, April 5 at 12:30 pm in the Prep Auditorium. Parents, if you find your schedule allows, please join us!
In addition to the performance, we have organized a poetry workshop with Tanaya for our Native (First Nation) students.

ANNUAL FUND—WHY TEACHERS GIVE
| |
| What Makes You Proud Of Santa Fe Prep?
Perhaps it’s the discoveries and voices of our students from all neighborhoods of Santa Fe enriching the education for all? Maybe it’s our teachers who are among the most talented and educated in New Mexico because of our incredible professional development programs? Or perhaps you see how we strive, daily, to do better and give more to our students so they are phenomenally prepared when they graduate? The Annual Fund makes all this happen and more. But let’s hear from our teachers and staff exactly why they think giving to this fund is so important:
“Prep is an excelling community of superb faculty, staff, and students eager to learn and lead. I want to encourage excellence in any way that I can. I see myself as a recipient of great generosity, faith in my abilities, and kindness from the Prep community and my small gift is a way to express my appreciation...read more...

| Acclaimed YA novelist, Len Vlahos, held a special writing forum for our Middle School this week. Vlahos spoke about his newly released novel, Life in a Fishbowl (Bloomsbury 2017).
Len Vlahos dropped out of NYU film school in the mid 80s to play guitar and write songs for garage band Woofing Cookies. When the band broke up in 1987, he followed his other passion, books. Vlahos has worked in the book industry ever since. He is the author of The Scar Boys (2014) and Scar Girl (2015). Vlahos and his wife own the Tattered Cover bookstores in Denver. Thank you to English teacher Sarah Stark for organizing this outstanding author visit.

UPPER SCHOOL WOLF CREEK TRIP
| |
| Chaperones Eric Rounds, and Ambrose and Bex Ferber took sixteen upper school students on Prep's 6th Annual Wolf Creek Trip last month. The group enjoyed a beautiful day of skiing with mixed sunshine and clouds the first day, and a rousing game of hide-and-seek throughout the giant rental house that same evening. The following day a substantial snowstorm blew in, making travel up the mountain inadvisable. Instead, the students soaked in the famous Pagosa Hot Springs and headed home.
According to Eric, "This trip was marked by an incredibly cohesive and friendly group of students, with freshmen through seniors spending almost all of their time in one big group. Everybody pitched in, getting chores done easily and painlessly. It was a wonderful trip!"

The boys scored the most points ever in school history and placed 11th over all....way to go, Blue Griffins!!
Spring sports are well underway: Boys Lacrosse has three games under their belt and will travel up to Durango this weekend for a three-game stint, with matches against Durango, Telluride and TimpView, Utah; Girls Lacrosse opens their season this week in Rio Rancho and will host a couple of Colorado schools at home on Friday and Saturday; the Baseball Team opens their season this week with an in-town double-header against the Santa Fe Indian School; the Tennis Team is also at the start of their season and will participate in the Santa Fe Quad this weekend; the Track Team will head to Jemez Valley on Saturday for their opening meet of the season; and Middle School Baseball (barely in its second year) has begun practices with a robust roster and opens their season following spring break.

| The Upper School Musical LEGALLY BLONDE went off without a hitch! Performances were met with a packed auditorium, uproarious laughter, and three standing ovations. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew!

| Kudos to Jordan Kinlaw '19 who organized a dinner at the Interfaith Shelter earlier this year. Jordan contacted Cathy Alvardo, who organizes the meals, and set up the entire evening. Jun-Hong Chen '19 and Emily Hilla '19 assisted Jordan in the festivities as well. The meal was hosted in conjunction with St. Vincent's Emergency Department, who raised the money through donations from the nurses, techs and doctors. It was a very successful event and we are very proud of our students' philanthropic initiative.
