An Update From Your YMCA

We miss you, and we miss serving our community through our beautiful facility, but we care about your safety and the safety of others. We care about planning and implementing a safe and positive return to our YMCA for you and our staff. Thank you for participating in the survey we sent out. We are able to make decisions based on your responses to ensure your pleasant return to our YMCA.
We realize you are all eager to get back to the Y-- so are we! However, last Friday evening, Governor Whitmer extended the closure of fitness facilities to June 12. The Dow Bay Area Family YMCA must remain closed through at least June 12 under these guidelines.
As we have done in April and May, June membership dues will not be charged. You will receive more details about membership fees going forward. If you would like a refresher regarding your membership, visit this page. We appreciate your patience as we continue to look for guidance from local and state governments regarding a reopening date. Once we have one in place, we will notify our members per email, social media, and phone call.
This is already an incredibly challenging time, so our hearts go out to Midland and Saginaw counties that were ravaged recently by floods. When there seems to be another reason for worry, know this: People Care. Already almost 2.5 million dollars have been raised for flood relief. Facilities and organizations have offered housing, food, and supplies for families out of work and out of their homes. Many are volunteering with or donating to flood relief. Look at the good and suddenly things seem brighter.
We also continue to serve our community with the caring and generous support of our members and local businesses. We are still providing meals for youth and Emergency Food Boxes to families and individuals. Since our facility closed, we have served over 28,000 meals and over 600 food boxes. THANK YOU for sharing our posts, donating to our cause, and telling those in need about these programs.
If you are able, please consider giving to the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA. Even if you don’t itemize on your 2020 tax form, you can now take a deduction for up to $300 in charitable contributions under the CARES Act that was recently passed. The Y is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization that exists to serve the community and we have accordingly transitioned the use of YMCA facilities and refocused our YMCA staff in an effort to meet the most critical needs in our community at this time. Without the membership dues that we depend on to provide quality programs and services, we need your help. Thank you for partnering with us!
People Care. We know you care too. Caring is one of our Core Values, and it is more important now than almost ever before. Remember to care for your neighbor, our friends in Midland and Saginaw, your favorite local business. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay with us.

Warmly,
the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA staff
