GVSU's Election 2020 Website!

During the 2020 election season, it is imperative that we maintain an ethic of respect and care for one another across difference, and that through this polarized election season, we maintain our deep commitment to our values of inclusion, equity, and community. The resources shared on this site are meant to provide education and support to our campus community.

Volunteer Opportunity!

Kirkhof Satellite Clerk Office and Election Day

We are looking for volunteers to help in our satellite office up until November 3rd, Election Day! Volunteer duties include:
1) Hallway Monitor (making sure people are social distancing, wearing a mask, and have their documents ready).
2) Inside Helper - helping Will inside the office, making sure people know where to fill out ballot, have supplies needed, cleaning space as people leave, etc.
3) Outside Promoter - this person will be *energetically* letting people know outside that we are open and pass out goodie bags. This can be 2 people and the shifts can be rotated if needed. On certain days the people outside will either be at the clocktower, or driving around a golf cart.

Election 2020: Concerns and Aspirations

Living Room Conversations

Living Room Conversations offers a simple, sociable and structured way to practice communicating across differences while building understanding and relationships. Typically, 4-7 people meet in person or by video call for about 90 minutes to listen to and be heard by others on one of our nearly 100 topics. Rather than debating or convincing others, we take turns talking to share and learn. Check out these resources to host your own living room conversation!

Active Citizens of the Week: Laker Dance Team!

Why is civic engagement is important to LDT?!

"As members of the Laker Dance Team and Gen Z, we believe our level of civic engagement will have a profound and (hopefully) positive impact on our futures. We strive to be leaders in using our “voice" to cultivate positive change through our volunteer efforts. We also aim to encourage civic engagement amongst our friends, families and peers. We were proud to recently partner with Grand Valley’s Community Service Learning Center to host a voter registration event, "Ready & Registered” resulting in over 1,000 texts to check people's voter status! Through this opportunity we were able to learn about the voter registration process, “get involved” and promote voter turnout in the upcoming election. "
