TfT Bulletin #2   |   September 15, 2021

While there are many things that I love about my role with Teaching for Transformation, my favorite is that TfT has introduced me to, and brought me into relationship with, committed Christian school educators from around the globe. While the specific moments are unpredictable, I enter every week 100% confident that I will be inspired by the stories, passions, and people I encounter.
One particularly delightful moment occurred last week when I was connecting with Matt Kamps, former principal of TfT school Manhattan Christian, now Head of School at Nicaragua Christian Academy.
Without announcement, a Deep Hope suddenly appeared on the Zoom screen as Matt shared that he couldn't begin his new role at his new school  without taking the time to articulate his Deep Hope—in both English and Spanish—to the staff.

I am grateful to be continually immersed in this TfT community of Deep Hope.

TfT Teachers Excel at Geography

Immediately after sending the last TfT bulletin, I began to hear a few more email pings than normal. I have sent out enough Bulletins to know that this series of sounds meant that something was awry. Sure enough, the Bulletin incorrectly placed Whitinsville Christian in Maryland instead of Massachusetts. My apologies to the staff of Whitinsville Christian, and my gratitude to those who took the time to help me grow.

Inviting the Community into the Throughlines: Intermountain Christian

The staff at Intermountain Christian School are in the early adopter year of their TfT implementation journey. As a way to engage their community in the ideas and language of TfT, they placed Throughline images and language in the common entry of their school. In this quick video, Head of School Mitch Menning points out the space and articulates the purpose behind the images.

TfT Masterclasses: Reflecting Back, Moving Forward

This summer, over 70 teachers from across the TfT Network participated in the five Masterclasses (Primary, Intermediate, Middle, Social Studies, Math) that were offered. We are grateful for the feedback that simultaneously confirmed the effectiveness of the Masterclasses while providing kind, specific, and helpful direction for the future. We are grateful to both our facilitators and participants who took the risk to participate in this new venture–thanks for being a “people of try.” Information for 2022 summer Masterclasses will be shared with the TfT network much earlier this year–look for it in early 2022.

Inviting Students into Deep Hope and Storyline: Primary Classrooms

The next few Bulletins will feature some of the work that the Masterclass participants produced during their time together this summer. This week we are sharing three Primary Masterclass examples that illustrate the launching of Deep Hope and Storyline via the Storyboard. Thank you to Nancy Luke of Allendale Christian, Jordyn Edwards of Byron Center Christian School, and Emily Penner of Sioux Center Christian.

Christian Deeper Learning

For several years, Teaching for Transformation has been an important voice in the Christian Deeper Learning movement. In preparation for this year’s Deeper Learning Conference, regular blog posts will explore the various facets of Deeper Learning. The first blog was just released. Consider subscribing to these posts to enrich your understanding of both Deeper Learning and Teaching for Transformation.

TfT Instructional Coaching Intensive: Nov 17-19

We continue to accept registrations for our Instructional Coaching Intensive on Nov. 18 and 19 at Grace Community School in Tyler, Texas. Imagine how you can either begin or continue to nurture the practice of instructional coaching within your school. We are offering both Level 100 training (for those new to Instructional Coaching) and Level 200 training.
We are also hosting a pre-intensive day on Nov. 17 when we will introduce and provide training on a new TfT lesson design tool. This tool is tailored for the day-to-day learning that happens amongst the core TfT practices.
The registration deadline for the intensive and the pre-intensive day deadline is October 1, 2021.
These days will be a wonderful time of forming relationships and deepening learning within the TfT Network. Join us if you can!
