A BIG Thank You and Yasher Koach to Immediate Past WRJ President and Proud Northeast District Member, Sara Charney |
Elected in March 2021, WRJ President Sara Charney was the organization's first Canadian president. She has been actively involved in WRJ since becoming local sisterhood president at Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has held many positions on the District and North American levels.
In Sara Charney’s words she, “. . . realized that WRJ could offer what I had always longed for but never knew existed: spiritual connection, a welcoming community of progressive Jewish women, and a forum to embrace a life of tikkun olam.” While Sara gained this from her experience with WRJ, we in the WRJ Northeast District have gained these concepts and so much more from our special relationship with Sara.
Thank you, Sara, for providing WRJ NE with visions and pathways for remaining a vibrant organization that boldly looks to the future while remaining spiritual, progressive, and focused on making our community and the world a better place.
We are especially proud of her kind heart and strong voice for reform Jewish women. She has shown WRJ some of what makes our Northeast District women so amazing!
A hearty Yasher Koach to you, Sara!

Not familiar with Tu B'Av?
Tu B'Av can be traced back to the grape harvest, when single women would dress in white and dance in the light of the full moon in vineyards to signal their status as being eligible for marriage. It has been written that Tu B’Av was one of the only times a year that the 12 tribes of Israel would intermingle, making Tu B’Av the original celebration of interfaith marriage and the ultimate matchmaking dance party!
