We're happy you're here, Coach!

It's Member Appreciation Week! We want to thank you for being part of our community and working every day to help students unleash their potential. Here's a special message for you from NSDA Executive Director Scott Wunn.

New African American/Black Coaches’ Mentoring Program

This fall, the NSDA and the African American/Black Coaches’ Caucus introduced a mentorship program for coaches who are African American/Black. This program seeks to expand day-to-day support opportunities for African American/Black coaches by connecting experienced and new coaches across our activity. Interested? Sign up to be a mentor or mentee!

Top 100 Schools

Each year, the 100 high school chapters with the largest number of new Honor Society degrees receive the Top 100 Schools designation. Join us in celebrating the 2020-2021 winners! Coaches and administrators will receive letters of congratulations.

2020-2021 Club Award Winners

A long running annual tradition in our Honor Society recognizes schools with Club Awards for achieving degrees in the Honor Society. Club Awards are based on school strength. For example, the 100 Club recognizes schools with a strength of more than 100 points in the prior school year. The 200 Club honors schools that earned 200 strength points; and so on. The higher the strength, the higher the Club designation. Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Club Award winners! Coaches and administrators will receive letters of congratulations.

Coach, Student, and Administrator Awards

Middle School (National) » Celebrate a coach or administrator who champions speech and debate! Nominations for these national-level awards are due May 1, 2022.
High School (District to National) » Each winner of the following district awards is automatically entered into the running for the national-level award when reported by your district chair.
District deadlines vary, so be sure to check with your local leadership about when nomination are due. District chairs must report district winners to us by April 16 for national award consideration!

Get Started with Spoken Word

Original Spoken Word Poetry will again be piloted as a supplemental event at the high school 2022 National Tournament and as a main event at the 2022 Middle School National Tournament. Students write and perform original poetry to express ideas, experience, or emotion through the creative arrangement of words according to their sound, rhythm, and meaning. Learn more about the format and strategies to succeed in our guide!

More Ways to Qualify to Nationals

High schools can enter up to two non-qualifying students who competed at the district tournament into supplemental events at the National Tournament again this year! Some events will be offered online, and some will be offered in person, so there's something for everyone.
We've also added a last-chance qualifier this spring! Read details »
