Communication Opportunities in Nonprofit Organizations
Featured Speakers: Spurthi Konthan and Kav Sidhu
239 Greene Street, Floor 8
Thursday, March 7, 5:30 - 7:30 RSVP
It’s time to think beyond traditional media companies and ad agencies for internship and career opportunities. Government agencies, nonprofits and companies that do good are in need of young talent. After decades ignoring the science behind what makes people care, these organizations are starting to put resources and creativity into their marketing and advertising. In the past few years, we’ve seen some of the most effective and truly engaging messaging come from local government agencies, including the NE Ohio Regional Sewer District and the NYC Dept of Sanitation.
This panel discussion aims to highlight communication internships and careers in the nonprofit space. The event will feature short presentations by two industry leaders, followed by a brief Q&a session. Light refreshments will be served.
Spurthi Konthan is an MCC alumni (class of 2020). Since graduating she has worked in communication roles for the nonprofit The Project On Government Oversight. Her current title is digital writer and strategist.
Kav Sidhu is the digital strategy lead at UNICEF.

Student Highlight: Yilia Qu
First year MA student Yilia Yijia Qu (she/they) presented her research "Queering Patriarchal Apocalypse: The Queer Temporality in Neon Genesis Evangelion" at NYU Cinema Studies' annual student conference - Holding the Gaze. This research stems from her undergraduate thesis, “Queering Reproduction through Cyborg Stories”, which examines how cyborg-themed media could be read as an alternative discourse of reproduction. Coming from film studies and gender studies training, Yilia is currently using her time at MCC to explore new ways of studying queer and posthumanism understanding of reproduction through interactive media technologies. Way to go, Yilia!
