Before sundown, Monday, April 22 to after nightfall on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, Passover is a week-long holiday marking the deliverance of the Israelites from bondage. Beginning with a festive meal called a seder and characterized by an abstention from bread products. The Seder feast is held on the first two nights of Passover (just the first night in Israel) after nightfall, April 22 and 23, 2024. For those observing, the first two days are no work allowed holidays, along with the last two days, April 29 and 30, 2024

Hillel at Emory: Passover Dinners
Passover is coming. Emory Hillel is excited to be offering meals over Passover at no cost to students, thanks to the generous support of the Emory community. Please RSVP for the meals you would like to attend, including Seders (DIY options available) and meals during the week.

Emory Buddha Day Celebration

Join us in celebrating the Buddha's life and teachings with Buddhist and interfaith communities from Emory and Atlanta. We will be engaging in traditional Buddhist chants, reflections by community members, bathing the Baby Buddha and reception afterwards.

Emory Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir: Spring Concert 2024
Saturday, April 27, 2024, 7:00 p.m., Cannon Chapel
Join the Emory University Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) and the Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir (VOIS) for our annual Spring Concert.
VOIS offers a space for soul healing and reflection through worship music of many different Christian genres. VOIS has been active on Emory's campus for over 30 years, and is happy to continue to be a part of Christian life and history with the OSRL’s Music Director, Maury Allums.

Emory OSRL Recap: Dharmic Altars and Cabinet Dedication
On Thursday, April 11, over 100 Emory students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members gathered together for a celebration of the new Emory Interfaith Center's hand-carved Hindu, Buddhist and Jain Altars and Sikh Cabinet. The celebration included remarks by The Rev. Dr. Greg McGonigle, Dean of Religious Life, Provost Ravi Bellamkonda, Hindu Chaplain Shweta Chaitanya and Buddhist Chaplain Priya Rakkhit Sraman, a Sikh Kirtan by Parminder Singh and family from the Guru Nanak Mission Society Gurdwara, dances by Emory Savera, and reflections and prayers by Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh student leaders.
Thank you to all who were part of this wonderful celebration and to all who contributed their vision, time, talent and generosity to make the shrines a reality. Learn more about the shrines here.

Baccalaureate is a multifaith spiritual ceremony of reflection and celebration on the Friday afternoon before Commencement.
This includes:
- Graduating seniors sharing music, reflections, and meditations with one another

International Community Friday Lunch

International Community Friday Lunch (ICFL) is a long-standing collaboration between the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) and International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
This gathering extends a warm welcome and builds community for international students and scholars over a free lunch. Attendees will also meet sponsors who will share helpful campus resources.
ICFL occurs on Fridays from 11:30 am-12:30 pm in Cannon Chapel Brooks Commons. Meals are limited in number and served on a first-come, first-serve basis. Learn more here.

The display of ancient Egyptian mummies in museums, historically celebrated by visitors eager to learn more about ancient Egypt, is a practice increasingly called into question, with many wondering who ultimately dictates the fate of those who have been mummified.
Join Egyptologists Salima Ikram and Heba Abd el-Gawad in conversation as they discuss the complexity of shifting practices and ideologies, the ethics of displaying ancient Egyptian mummies in museums, and the ownership of ancient Egyptian culture.

Emory Votes Initiative: Volunteer to Help Emory Host our Dekalb Voting Location April 29-May 21, 1599 Clifton Rd. Atlanta, Georgia 30322
The Emory Votes Initiative is looking for volunteers to support the DeKalb County Polling Site located on Emory’s Atlanta campus for the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary Elections. Early voting runs from April 29-May 17.
Election Day is May 21. We will be following up about upcoming elections throughout the year.

Emory Interfaith Center Open Hours
(The IFC will be closed for spring break week 3/9-3/17)
The Emory Intefaith Center is a place for worship, prayer, meditation, and retreat on campus for Emory's diverse spiritual communities that also fosters interfaith engagement, education, dialogue, service, and social justice work. It is a home away from home for Emory's diverse spiritual communities, as well as a gateway between the campus and the Atlanta community and world beyond.
The center encompasses spacious and flexible sacred spaces, community and meeting rooms for hospitality, gatherings, studying, and retreats, as well as nearby offices for Emory's multifaith chaplaincy staff, interns, and student workers.
Hours of operation:
- Monday-Friday: 9:00 a.m-8:00 p.m.
- Saturday-Sunday: By reservation for programs

Ridvan Fri., Apr. 19 – Tue., Apr. 30, 2024 Tradition: Baha'i Commemorates the 12 days that Baha'u'llah spent in the Garden of Ridvan in the last days of his exile in Baghdad, during which time he proclaimed himself as the one announced by Bab. Work is suspended for the first, ninth, and twelfth days.
Mahavir Jayanti Sun., Apr. 21, 2024 Tradition: Jainism Celebrates the birthday of Lord Mahavira. Born with the name Vardhamana in ca. 599 BCE, he was later given the titles of honor, Mahavira ("Great Hero") and Jina ("Conqueror" or "Victor"), a title applied also to the other Tirthankaras.
Passover (Pesach) Mon., Apr. 22 – Tue., Apr. 30, 2024 Tradition: Judaism Passover commemorates the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. It is celebrated for eight days with special prayers and symbolic foods at home, starting with the Seder, a ritual meal that re-enacts that ancient deliverance and emphasizes the freedom of the Jews under the guidance of God. The first two and the last two days are holidays.
Palm Sunday (Orthodox Christianity) Sun., Apr. 28, 2024 Tradition: Christianity-Orthodox Celebrates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, marking the beginning of Holy Week that culminates in Easter or Pascha. In some churches, Palm Sunday is combined with the anticipation of Christ's death and so is also known as "Passon Sunday." Orthodox Christians often observe this Sunday on a date different from the date on which Protestant and Roman Catholics observe it.
