As we reach the midpoint of the semester and the holiday season draws near, campus life is buzzing with energy. While your academic journey is in full swing, I hope you're also taking time to connect with fellow graduate students through the many exciting events happening around you.
|
Over the next few weeks, we’re offering a variety of opportunities to spark engagement and strengthen our graduate community. On November 11, we’ll gather for a campus-wide Veterans Day Ceremony to honor both graduate and undergraduate veterans, featuring a special guest speaker and social. We’ll also celebrate International Education Week with our international students, continue our professional development offerings with a Lunch and Learn and a Healthcare Panel in partnership with the Career Center, and ring in the holiday season with the 3rd Annual Graduate Student Holiday Social, held alongside Christmas at the Hall.
|
Don’t miss out — explore our newsletter for all the details on these and other exciting events created just for you, our graduate students. We can’t wait to celebrate together!
|
Sincerely,
Christopher Cuccia, Ed.D.
Associate Provost for Academic and Graduate Affairs

What's Happening This Month

|
A common challenge when searching for a position is feeling like you are applying into a void. When this happens, it does not mean that you are not qualified, it may mean that you need to adjust your approach. Here are three tips to help you get out of a challenging intern/job search period.
|
- Tap into the “Hidden Market”
Many roles are filled through networking, referrals or internal promotions. Applying just through online applications can be limiting. Reach out to companies of interest, request informational interviews, attend industry events, join professional groups and volunteer to build connections and promote yourself. This approach can create leads for open and unposted positions. - Upskills and Leverage Niche Skills
Take online courses (like LinkedIn Learning and Coursera) to earn certifications that help you enhance skills and become more competitive. Highlight unique skills to show why you would be a good fit for new opportunities. - Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile
Your LinkedIn profile is a 24/7 billboard of your accomplishments and professional identity. A generic or dormant profile can cause recruiters to scroll past it. Use the “About” and “Profile” sections to share your passions, expertise and key achievements. Share industry insights and join discussions to show active engagement.
