Dear Valued Member,
Thank you for your continued support throughout the pandemic disruption we’ve all experienced to some degree or another. The good news is that our industry is gearing up strongly for a reinvention, with Next Gen ATMs on track to be launched in Q4 and ATMIA’s new global ATM hygiene best practices and protocol recently published to enable deployers to provide an additional comfort level for hygiene-conscious ATM users in the “new normal”.

I was proud of ATMIA for transitioning to virtual events until the pandemic is truly over, in order to continue providing excellent educational material by the industry, for the industry – check out our upcoming virtual events here, which you can enjoy from the comfort and safety of your own desk space, comfortably fitting each day’s sessions into your daily workload.

I’m equally proud of the ATM industry for fighting back against the challenge of this once-in-a-century public health emergency. Together, we can keep our industry growing while monitoring the threats we face through our work in the international ATM Security Association.

Let’s continue to protect the present while building the industry’s future. It’s safe in our hands.

Warmest regards,

Mike Lee

ATMIA Launches New Membership Level to Support the ATM Industry During Current Economic Downturn

ATMIA has announced a new STARTUP Membership Level that will provide ATM businesses with all the benefits of a Regional Associate Level membership for just $500 ‒ in order to provide cost-savings during this economic downturn.

“Typically, we only extend a special membership offer once a year,” said ATMIA Global Director, Finance & Member Services Sharon Lane. “But this is certainly not shaping up to be a ‘typical’ year and we wanted to do something special to provide extra support to members, just like we did during the financial crisis of 2008-2009.”

The best offer ATMIA has ever put forward, this limited time membership represents a 60 percent discount from regular prices and is $100 less than the Small Business Level membership, but with more benefits. Contact Erika Navarrete to join!

It’s been a tough year and the ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) understands that. To provide extra support for the membership, ATMIA is again offering members ‒ no matter their level of membership ‒ the added benefit of being able to post white papers, case studies and infographics to the site for FREE in September.

“Typically, we only extend this offer once a year,” said ATMIA Global Director of Member Services Sharon Lane. “But this is certainly not shaping up to be a ‘typical’ year and we wanted to do something to provide extra support to members.”

ATMIA publishes global best practices for a new ATM hygiene for the pandemic and post-pandemic

ATMIA, the only global not-for-profit trade association for the ATM industry, published global best practices for a new ATM hygiene for the pandemic and post-pandemic “new normal” society.

It highlights available technologies, such as UVC scans for ATM fascias, as well as best practices for minimizing the risk of transmission of viruses and bacteria, such as social distancing at ATM queues and quarantines of cash before loading into ATM cassettes. In addition, the global industry guidelines outline technology care best practices.

ATMIA Blog: ATMIA Publishes a Study of the IAD Market in Africa

The 2020 International IAD (Independent ATM Deployer) Study for Africa paints a big picture of opportunities for retail ATM deployment across varying emerging markets on the big African continent. It is the latest research report in ATMIA’s global series of IAD studies.

The content is both deep-diving and wide-ranging, covering key economic and financial services indicators like GDP, inflation, banked population, bank data, ATM, cash use, and digital money use data, as well as social factors which impact on opportunities for future investments in ATM deployment, such as population size, urbanization rates, literacy rates, corruption, governance and political conflict issues, and even environmental considerations. But the data sets across multiple countries don’t overwhelm the reader because the author blends them seamlessly into a well-narrated analysis.

Innovation in Community Access to Cash Pilots unveiled
The Community Access to Cash Pilot (CACP) initiative has today announced the plans for the nine Cash Pilot locations across the UK, where trials are being tested to help address challenges of improving cash access and acceptance.

In June, eight locations were chosen based on the location, the issues the communities faced, and the local people willing to lead the pilots. A further pilot has now been confirmed in Millisle, County Down, Northern Ireland.

Each community will be trialling a number of different solutions, based on meeting the needs of local communities.

Some Reflectections on our 2020 Banking Predictions

Where were we?

Looking back on our predictions for banks from the start of the year, it’s fair to say no one could have known how the year would turn out and how big the impact of the coronavirus pandemic would have on the banking industry.

Having said that, our expectations about the key trends of the year have largely rung true.

BNP Paribas preps for post-trade DLT with smart contract apps

BNP Paribas Securities Services is working with Digital Asset to design a number of real-time trade and settlement apps using smart contracts

The new apps will provide market participants in Asia Pacific with real-time access to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX)’s anticipated DLT -based trading and settlement platforms.

The first solution, due in 2021, is a smart elections service for corporate actions, connecting all participants to information such as dividend reinvestment or purchase offer decisions at the same time. BNP Paribas says the effort will reduce processing time, improving operational efficiency and enabling investors to finalise their decisions on the most current information on market factors.
