Fall Staff Development Week: Nov. 11-14

The University of Missouri System (UM System) Office of Human Resources is hosting their bi-annual Fall Staff Development Week, Nov. 11-14.
Attend virtual professional development sessions and engage in community building across the UM System. Invited speakers will share information and insights on high-demand topics, including "Utilizing AI in the Workplace" and "Healthy Meal Planning for Busy Professionals". Learn more and register.

Staff Council Harvesters Volunteer Day: Register by Nov. 22

Join Staff Council Outreach Committee on Dec. 7, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Harvesters. Families and children ages 8 and up are welcome to join. The UMKC team will be assigned a task, like sorting food, packing backpack snacks, or working in the coolers. Space is limited, register by Nov. 22.

November Health & Wellbeing Topic: Gratitude

UMKC Office of Human Resources shares health and wellness topics monthly. For Nov., the office shares information about World Kindness Day (taking place Nov. 13) along with articles, trainings, and tip sheets focused on supporting UMKC staff health and wellbeing at work, at home, and at play. Learn more about Employee Assistance Program (EAP) resources staff can utilize, and other beneficial resources for being kind to ourselves and showing appreciation for the good in life and in others.

Trans Week of Celebration: Nov. 16-22

Transgender (Trans) Week of Celebration takes place Nov. 16-22. Celebrate our UMKC transgender, nonbinary, genderqueer, and gender diverse community members through centering on joy and community throughout the week. UMKC staff are welcome to attend the following events:
- Nov. 16, 2:00 p.m., Miller Nichols Room 325. Queer in the archives: Trans history of Kansas City. Join the Gay & Lesbian Archive of Mid-America to uncover the long history of trans folks in Kansas City. Learn more on this website.
- Nov. 18, 9:00 a.m., Student Union 301. LGBTea community hour & webinar: Updated guidance for supporting trans & nonbinary students in higher education. Tune into a webinar provided by University of Michigan and The Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. Lean how staff can support trans and nonbinary students. - Nov. 20, 4:00 p.m., Student Union 302. Trans Day of Remembrance. The annual Trans Day of Remembrance, or TDoR, is observed internationally on Nov. 20 each year. At UMKC, we host a vigil, accompanied by a reading of the names of those lost in the past year due to anti-transgender violence. Participants are also invited to speak about what this day means to them and how transphobia affects our communities. Learn more on this website.
- Nov. 21, noon, Student Union 301. Trans 101. Looking for some bite-sized education about trans issues and identities? Join us for Trans 101, a basics course about trans identity, language, and how to work towards allyship with this community. Learn more on this website.
