2017 Walk & Ride Challenge Winners

On October 27, this year's Walk & Ride Challenge wrapped up and our winners were determined the following week. Our Grand Prize winning teams are calculated by using the average number of steps each member has taken. That's each team member's total steps added up, and divided by the number of members on the team.
Bethesda Urban Partnership Board Chairman Jack Alexander (far left) and Bethesda Transportation Solutions Director Kristen Blackmon (far right) present Walk & Ride First Place Team GTM Architects 1 with their Grand Prize package.
GTM Architects 1 walked an average of 222,401 steps over the 3-week period. The team as a whole received a prize package donated by Bradley Food & Beverage and each team member will receive a $125 gift card to Amazon.
Second Place was awarded to the Happy Feet from Linowes and Blocher, who walked an average of 202,500 steps over the course of the Challenge.
Third Place was awarded to the Taco Belles from ASHP! The Taco Belles walked an average of 201,387 over the three-week Challenge period.
In all, 2017 Walk & Ride participants logged 29,541,670 steps in three weeks, which is the equivalent of 13987 miles. For perspective, the furthest point from Bethesda is Perth, Western Australia, which is 11,564 miles away!
And, of course, a huge thank you to ALL participants and our sponsors:

Metro Seeks Input on Transit Facilities

At the request of the State of Maryland, Metro is considering changes at three of its transit facilities to improve customer access to the Maryland Transit Administration's (MTA) Purple Line facilities.
The proposed changes are as follows:
Construction of a new south entrance to the Bethesda Metrorail Station that will connect with the street level and the Bethesda Purple Line station.
Construction of a new entrance to the Silver Spring Metrorail Station from the south end of the station platform to connect with the upper level of the existing Silver Spring Transit Center and the Silver Spring Purple Line station.
Removal of 500-600 parking spaces from the Park & Ride Surface Lot 4 at the New Carrollton Metrorail Station on the station's north side to make way for the New Carrollton Purple Line station facilities. Also proposed is the transfer of 480 parking spaces to WMATA from the State of Maryland. This state-owned Park & Ride Lot is on the south side of New Carrollton Metrorail station.
To provide feedback on these changes to WMATA, you may complete an online survey or attend an open house Tuesday, December 5, 2017, beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by a public hearing at 6 p.m. Speakers are requested to register in advance via email at speak@wmata.com.
The deadline for providing feedback  to WMATA is December 15. For more information, visit wmata.com/initiatives.
