Registration for Bike to Work Day opened March 1, so click here to make your participation official. This year’s event happens on Friday, May 15.

The Downtown Bethesda pit stop runs from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Woodmont & Bethesda Avenues. Free registration entitles you to a t-shirt and other goodies at the pit stop.

Are You a Bicycle Friendly Business?

March 10 is the deadline to apply for recognition as a Bicycle Friendly Business℠ (BFB℠).

The League of American Bicyclists’ BFB designation recognizes employers for their efforts to encourage a welcoming atmosphere for bicycling employees, customers and the community.

If you gain recognition, the League will spotlight your BFB designation in a national press release, through the League's social media and on its interactive awards map, like Bethesda Urban Partnership above, this May.

As an applicant, you will receive customized feedback and assistance to become more bicycle-friendly. It’s all part of the League’s Bicycle Friendly America initiative.

The League evaluates businesses around what it calls the 5 E's: engineering, encouragement, education, evaluation & planning and equity & inclusion. Then it assigns recognized BFBs to either a bronze, silver, gold or platinum level.

Hosting a Commuter Information Day (CID) at any time of the year always helps your employees. But Earth Month gives you a special opportunity to highlight the environmental benefits of alternative transportation modes.

For example, according to the American Public Transportation Association:

Carpooling/vanpooling, bicycling and walking also have dramatically positive environmental impacts. We’ll talk about all of those during an Earth Month commuter event at your workplace or building lobby.

Cool Commute Submissions

Thanks to all who submitted photos for the Cool Commute Contest, which ended February 28.

The photos were…well…icy (but in a good way). Check out their coolness here. (For extra-wintry effects, maybe listen to the soundtrack of Frozen while perusing the photos lol?)

Next up: Earth Month BTS BINGO Starts April 1.

You will have the whole month of April to compete by completing Bethesda-related transportation tasks on a “BINGO card.”
