Input Regarding Common Hire Dates – Your Voice Matters |
In February, the Division of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness (HROE) launched common hiring dates. This pilot initiative was designed to support new employees and the timely processing of their first payroll within established deadlines and completion of benefit enrollment tasks within the required 31 days from their date of hire. The intent of unified onboarding is to emphasize the employee experience by facilitating networking, team building and relationships within the cohort of new hires. In addition, this unified timing can help enable proactive engagement from HROE professionals to help new hires navigate each step of the onboarding process.
HROE is reviewing future hire and onboarding dates in response to feedback received through the Quick-Look Assessment report. Please provide your input on proposed common hire dates for 2024 by completing this quick survey by Friday, Oct. 27.

Understanding Emergency Leave |
Emergency leave for the death of a family member grants employees up to five working days (40 hours) of paid leave for time off due to the death of an immediate family member defined as an employee's spouse, the employee's or spouse's children, parents, siblings, grandchildren, grandparent or great-grandparent. This type of emergency leave is not required to be used consecutively but must be taken within six months of the family member's death. Approval by the department head or designee is required and should be noted in the comments when entering the leave request in Workday.
Justified emergency leave under other circumstances may be used for a reason not listed in System Regulation 31.03.03 Leaves of Absence with Pay if an employee provides good cause for the leave and has exhausted all accumulated vacation and compensatory time.
A severe personal crisis or catastrophic situation may be approved for up to five working days (40 hours) of leave with pay with approval by the vice president. A request for more than five working days requires approval from the president. Severe personal crises or catastrophic situations are unexpected events like natural disasters, a house fire or evacuation orders.
If you have questions about emergency leave, contact leave administration at leave@tamu.edu.
