London’s first memorial to those affected by HIV/AIDS will be created by Professor Anya Gallaccio (Visual Arts), whose winning proposal involves intersections of a tree. “Trees are a universal symbol of life,” she said.

Two creative works—poetry by Brandon Som (Literature) and music by alumna Mary Kouyoumdjian—explore the intersections of identity and the complex journey of transnational communities. Both were acclaimed by the Pulitzer Prize jury.

| Congratulations to Bright Gyamfi, assistant professor of History, for being honored with an Excellence in Teaching in African and African Diaspora Studies award, presented by the African and African American Studies Research Center.
As an educator, Gyamfi highlights connections within Africa and the African Diaspora, helping his students understand their potential to contribute to broad liberatory projects. He is passionate about changing the face of academia, and mentors students from underrepresented groups, introducing resources and opportunities.

| Ceci Moss, professor of practice (Visual Arts) and director and chief curator of the Mandeville Art Gallery, is spending her summer participating in the Rupert residency in Vilnius, Lithuania. Rupert is an independent, publicly funded center for art.
Moss is conducting research for her second book, "Mutual: Movement Building in the Arts," an anthology of edited conversations with artists, curators, critics, activists and theorists that aims to plant seeds for paradigmatic changes within the art sector.
