Boys and Girls' Clubs of Ohio Ascends on CSU
|
Cleveland State University hosted high school students from around Ohio with open arms on June 28 during the first annual Boys and Girls Club Day at CSU. It was a day full of fun, campus tours, and great advice about the importance of a college education from members of the CSU campus. “I firmly believe that it is our obligation, as adults, to reach back and empower the children,” said Director of University Special Events Ron Carson. “We need to be able to continue the momentum and power the generations that follow.”

NCCA Summer Conference Takes Center Stage

CSU hosted 75 representatives from colleges and university career centers in Ohio at the Wolstein Center for a professional development conference on June 14. Sponsored by The Ohio Department of Higher Education, those attending could participate in breakout sessions and hear from keynote speakers.

Vikings CHAMPS Camp Sheds Light on Healthcare Industry

Thirty local high school students were selected to participate in the annual Vikings CHAMPS camp at CSU June 12-30. The event served as an introduction to a wide range of highly skilled careers in the health field, allowing students to hone their skills during various activities.

Sport Management Institute Gives Students Up-Close View of the Sports World
|
The fourth annual event took center stage on CSU’s campus from June 19-23. It allowed high school students to better understand the sports and entertainment industries and identify potential career paths in the immediate future.

CSU Police Warn of More Car Break-Ins
|
CSU police are warning of more car break-ins taking place and are suggesting the following safety tips:
- Park in well-lit areas
- Please make sure to use your anti-theft devices, if your model car does not have an anti-theft system
- Remove all personal items from your vehicles
- Walk in groups
- Be aware of your surroundings at all times
- Report any suspicious activity
In the event of an EMERGENCY, please dial 911 from your cellular device, and make sure you report you are at CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY. The call will be directed to the proper department. You can also report an emergency or suspicious activity to CSUPD at 216-687-2020 or use the Rave Guardian App.

Denise Keary, Coordinator for Health & Wellness Programs had a proposal accepted and will be presenting at the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery Conference hecaod.osu.edu/national-meeting in a joint presentation with MetroHealth. The session is “Something to Talk About: How a Campus and Community Partnership is ‘normalizing’ the conversation”. They present on 6.26.23
- Dan Darkow, Director of the Office of Disability & Testing Services will be presenting at the Association on Higher Education and Disability National Conference. His session is: Wait…It’s That Easy? Using Built-In Accessibility Features on Everyday Devices

Megan Ashwill (LUV! Coordinator), Alexia Miracle (LUV! Intern), and Dean Scoufield had a Poster Presentation accepted at the Ohio Campus Compact Annual Conference and will present this summer. The title is, “ LUV! & CARE After COVID: Building Better & Stronger Food Pantries After Crisis”

Finally, Scoufield will be presenting at the Ohio Anti-Hazing Summit at Bowling Green University. The session is “Bystander Intervention as a Means of Hazing Prevention”

A virtual forum will be taking place for faculty and staff on Tuesday, July 25, from 3-4 p.m. to learn more about CSU’s enrollment and financial status. During the forum, you will have the opportunity to ask the Senior Leadership Team questions and learn about additional ways to share your ideas and input throughout the process.
