Yi Ren’s (Biochemistry) latest research describes the structure of a protein complex involved in mRNA export. The study sheds light on the molecular mechanism of mRNA export and its role during infection by herpes viruses.

VUMC discovery aids effort to stop a deadly virus in Rwanda
Human testing of a neutralizing antibody discovered by researchers at the Vanderbilt Vaccine Center, directed by James Crowe Jr. (Pediatrics), has begun in Rwanda following an outbreak of deadly hemorrhagic Marburg Virus Disease that has killed at least 15 people.

Prashant Singh honored for excellence in research during 2024 Fall Staff Assembly

Jenny Tran receives 2025 Dr. Anne Karpay Award in Structural Biology
Jenny Tran (Biochemistry, Breann Brown lab) has won the 2025 Dr. Anne Karpay Award in Structural Biology. Tran is dissecting the allostery involved in heme biosynthesis initiation. Her work has led to collaborations with the labs of Jens Meiler (Chemistry), Zhongyue “John” Yang (Chemistry), and Jason MacGurn (Cell and Developmental Biology).

Edna wishes you a brave Thanksgiving!
Edna St. Vincent Millay was born in 1892, and she and her two sisters were raised in near poverty by their mother in Maine. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1923. Herein is a mini-anthology compiled by Vice Dean of the School of Medicine Basic Sciences Chuck Sanders (Biochemistry).
