Student veteran and sophomore nursing major Jake Duncan is making YSU life as an online student work for him. As a single parent, and former Navy Corpsman, Jake is used to making changes on the fly and expects to finish the semester in good shape.
The adjustment to this temporary "new normal" has been difficult and volatile, however, we hope you are remaining safe and healthy at this time. This first week proved to be a learning curve for all, but we hope everyone is able to make it work and still continue the success you have built thus far into the semester!
Though the Carl A. Nunziato Veterans Resource Center on campus remains closed until further notice, student Veterans are encouraged to reach out to Veterans Center staff with questions or concerns by emailing veterans@ysu.edu.

2020 Census Update
The United States 10-year census count is underway. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic and Youngstown State University’s proactive response to slow the spread by moving to an online learning environment, we want to clarify how YSU students are counted.

Eight Ways to Manage Uncertainty
Be kind. Remind yourself it may take time for this stressful situation to resolve, and be patient with yourself and others in the meantime.
Limit exposure to news. When we’re stressed about something, it can be hard to look away, but compulsively checking the news only keeps you wound up. Try to limit your check-ins and avoid the news during vulnerable times of day, such as right before bedtime.
Avoid dwelling on things you can’t control. During uncertainty, many people immediately imagine worst-case scenarios. Get out of the habit of ruminating on negative events.
Take your own advice. Ask yourself: "If a friend came to me with this worry, what would I tell them?" Imagining your situation from the outside can often provide perspective and fresh ideas.
Engage in self-care. Don’t let stress derail your healthy routines. Make efforts to eat well, exercise, and get enough sleep. Many people find stress release in practices such as yoga and meditation.
Seek support from those you trust. Many people isolate themselves when they’re stressed or worried, but social support is important, so reach out to family and friends. We can reach out by phone, or social media.
Control what you can. Focus on the things that are within your control. Establish routines to give your days and weeks some comforting structure.
Ask for help. If you’re having trouble managing stress and coping with uncertainty on your own, ask for help. Call Student Counseling @ 330 941 3737 or online here!
Stay Tuned! We will continue to post and keep you informed.
Finally, know that we, like you, are monitoring the situation and will adapt to changing circumstances. Stay well, safe, and healthy!
