WHS 1st Semester – Collection Day
Monday, January 25, 1:00 – 3:00pm
Students in grades 9 – 12 are scheduled to return first semester Woodinville High School and district-owned property, on an alphabetical arrival schedule, January 25th from 1 P.M. – 3 P.M. Since this is a mid-year check point, not all items that are checked out need to be returned. Individual teachers will communicate with students if items in their possession should be brought back to WHS on January 25th.
Students should arrive at WHS Bus Zone entrance off NE 195th Street based on the alphabetical arrival scheduled. It is extremely important that students come to campus at their assigned time.
Grades 9-12 Alphabetical Arrival Schedule:
- 1:00 – 1:30pm (A–G)
- 1:30 – 2:00pm (H–L)
- 2:00 – 2:30pm (M–S)
- 2:30 – 3:00pm (T–Z)
Please label all items being returned with the student’s name and school ID
This will be a curbside return. Please have items ready to go, and a staff member will approach your car to pick up items. Throughout the pick-up process, students and families will remain in their cars.
Please keep our staff safe by wearing masks when on campus.
Cars will follow a designated path and stop at stations, as needed.
If you have something at home that belongs to WHS/NSD from the 2019-2020 school year, please also bring it with you to return.

"Poppin 2021" – An Appreciation Event For The Senior Class Of 2021
ALL seniors are invited to drive through campus to pick up a "Poppin 2021" themed gift on Monday, January 25th, from 1-3 p.m. We do ask that students driving through campus follow Covid-19 safety guidelines and wear a mask. Please be mindful of the following directions before joining us on Monday:
- Enter through the main entrance and turn into the lower (teacher) parking lot.
- Have a sign on your passenger side window that says, "Class of 2021" + your first and last name.
- If you are picking up the gift for a sibling or friend, you must also have a sign for them as well.
This event coincides with our collection of materials event. Combining the two events allows seniors the opportunity to drop off materials plus pick up their "Poppin 2021" gift without having to return to campus a second time. The collection of materials is taking place in the "Main Car Loop" while our "Poppin 2021" event will occur in the lower staff parking lot. Please see the map for location/directional information.

WHS Theatre Company presents:
Woodinville City Limits,
A Virtual One-Act Play Festival
The award-winning Woodinville High School Theatre Company is excited to present its upcoming winter play festival, Woodinville City Limits featuring seven short one-act plays, which you will be able to enjoy online starting February 5 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available now through February 12 at www.whstc.org and are $5.00 per household for all 7 plays. Woodinville City Limits will feature works by Tad Mosel, Steve Unckles, and David Ives. Written in the second half of the 20th century, these plays will make for a witty, romantic, absurd, and existentially-minded evening of virtual theatre.
Tad Mosel’s Impromptu examines just how much truth and illusion a person needs to live a balanced life. Content, written by Steve Unckles, is probably best explained in his own words: Unckles and the characters he has written serve as a role model not just for those confused by American definitions of male and female but for all of the confused, everywhere. These plays are joined by the following five one-acts written by David Ives. In Sure Thing, a couple on a first date has the opportunity to reset and try again each time they say the wrong thing. Words, Words, Words takes the “infinite monkey theorem”-- the idea that given enough time, three monkeys in a room could eventually compose any given text, including Shakespeare’s Hamlet -- and turns it into reality. In English Made Simple, a couple named Jack and Jill meet at a party, and as the night progresses, it becomes apparent that the two knew each other and were even involved romantically before this night. During the play, a voice known only as “Loudspeaker Voice”, explains what the couple is really thinking as they talk to each other. In The Philadelphia, a man discovers that he’s entered a strange pocket of the universe where the only way to get what he wants is to ask for the opposite. Finally, in Variations on the Death of Leon Trotsky, the audience is treated to the hilarious vision of the famous Marxist waxing poetical -- and dying, over and over and over again.
The cast is comprised of 18 of Woodinville High School Theatre Company’s students, including seniors Anna Jackson, Anna Lokken, Austin Glenn, Carmen Katsaros, Jack Preston, Jenna Byers, Josh Locke, Kaley Roughton, Maddie St. Mary, Parker Carson, Savannah Ferguson, and Tony Bowen. Lauren Prescott will be Stage Manager. Due to the virtual aspect of the show, many of the other technical aspects of each one act were handled by the actors and directors themselves.
The shows were adapted, and designed by Josh Butchart and directed by Josh Butchart, Steve Cooper, Katharina Muller, and Marsha Stueckle with support from Katharina Muller (Producer), Stephanie Penoyer (Props Master), Nathaniel Gibbs (Sound), Marsha Stueckle (Costumes), and the Woodinville Drama Boosters, led by Kelly Locke and Emily Mus.

Finishing 1st Semester:
You made it! It’s the end of the first semester and while there are a lot of mixed emotions around remote learning, we want you to take a moment and reflect on the first semester. Going into the second semester, what can you take away from the first semester that will allow you to grow and evolve as a student in this remote learning model?
Questions you can ask yourself:
- Is my current learning space working for me?
- Did I manage my time well and use my asynchronous time appropriately?
- How often was I connecting with my teachers and asking them for help?
- How many times did I stay at the end of the period and connect with my teachers?
- Can I turn on my video and feel more connected to my class and teacher?
Do you need to visit with your School Counselor about your schedule?

Attention Seniors: Class of 2021 Mid-Year Rank - Add to Transcripts due January 25th, 3pm
We will be running senior rank for mid-year college reports once 1st semester grades have been posted to your transcript. IF you have any outside credits you want posted to your transcript, please send an official transcript from the outside school and a completed Add to Transcript form to your counselor by 3:00pm on January 25th. If we do not receive them by the 25th, they will not be included in your GPA for class rank.

College Board: BigFuture Days for High School Sophomores and Juniors, Feb 6, 1-5pm
The College Board will soon be launching its inaugural BigFuture Days, a regional series of virtual college fairs for high school sophomores and juniors to help connect them with hundreds of colleges, admissions officers, and current college students. BigFuture Days are designed to give students a tailored experience so they can establish connections with colleges and take action on important college planning tasks, like building a college list and identifying scholarships to apply for.
Students are welcome to join any of the BigFuture days they are hosting, but the BigFuture Day specifically designed for Western states will be Saturday, February 6, 2021, 1–5 pm.

1st Semester Report Card Information
Parents/Guardians can expect student first semester report cards to arrive in home mailboxes by the second week in February. They will also be available in ParentVUE/StudentVUE at that time.
To ensure you receive your student’s grades, if you have had an address change or update, please follow the address change process found on the counseling website.

NSD Annual Form Notifications & ParentVUE/StudentVUE
On Tuesday, November 3, NSD Communications emailed all families about the requirement to electronically acknowledge the annual District form notifications by Tuesday, November 17. This was followed up with communication directly to WHS families. As indicated, usually these forms have been provided in welcome back packets, but because of COVID-19 they were moved online to ParentVUE for parents/guardians and to StudentVUE for students.
Until December 7, families and students had the ability to bypass acknowledging the forms and to ask questions. As of Dec. 7, families and students must acknowledge the forms before they will be able to view any information in StudentVue or ParentVue.

- Please know that when you next login to ParentVUE, you will be prompted to download, read, and take action for each of the forms listed above.
For those Woodinville students who have also not yet completed the process, you will be prompted to download, read and acknowledge the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook when logging in to StudentVUE. Again, please complete this process, as the due date has passed.
- The applicable parent/guardian and/or student acknowledgement(s) must be completed by ALL parents/guardians and students in NSD.
- Please note both parents/guardians and students must type their electronic signature exactly as it appears in ParentVUE/StudentVUE or you may get an error message.

The following plan was developed by District staff in preparation for a return to school and District buildings when it is safe to do so. The information in this handbook is intended to help everyone understand required safety protocols and know what to expect for every student and staff member. As the pandemic data and state response continue to evolve, District staff will continue to review, refine, and adjust this plan as needed. We remain grateful for their efforts.

Class of 2021 High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) - Due January 31!
As announced at the January 8 advisory with Ms. Gerlinger, next steps include finishing your High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP), a graduation requirement, and applying for scholarships (not required, but helpful).
The High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) is a requirement due by January 31, 2021. You can access assigned tasks via your Naviance account. The mandatory Senior advisory period on Friday 1/8 walked seniors through the process. Watch the Zoom video.
Ms. Gerlinger also has an open session to assist seniors with the HSBP on Wednesday, January 27 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM (access her via her Ms. Gerlinger's Zoom Room). Ms. Allen is available Friday, January 29 from 10:55-11:55am at Lisa Allen's Zoom Room.

Power or Internet Outage - What To Do
We understand that weather incidents may cause a loss of power when students and staff are engaged in distance learning. Our district's Technology, Northshore Learns, and Communications teams collaborated with educators to develop a plan for notifications about power outages, access to service, and how everyone can prepare ahead of time to adjust and continue learning. Please visit our website to learn what to do if your power goes out or if your teacher's power goes out.

Winter Weather
As we enter into the winter season and the potential for inclement weather, it is important to make sure your family’s contact information is current. Families can verify contact information in ParentVUE. Please contact the WHS office today if you need help accessing ParentVUE or updating contact information.
In the event of an emergency, or if winter weather conditions impact the school schedule or affect meal distribution or Books on the Bus, families will receive a phone call, email and/or text message from the District. Information will also be posted on the District website at nsd.org and social media channels. If no information is communicated, there is no change to schedules.
As a reminder, there is detailed information on our District website if your family loses power and/or internet during distance learning due to inclement weather.

New E-Flyer Platform - Peachjar
We are excited to share that we have moved our e-flyer program to a platform called Peachjar. We receive many requests from local non-profit organizations to distribute program fliers. Peachjar will help facilitate the process of submitting, reviewing, approving and posting e-flyers. With the move to this platform, all e-flyers that are submitted to Peachjar will then be reviewed and approved by District staff to ensure that they meet the District guidelines. We are committed to providing access to all individuals seeking information on our District website. All submitted PDFs must meet accessibility requirements to be approved for distribution. We also encourage organizations to submit flyers in the top five languages spoken in our district.

City of Woodinville Seeks Input on ADA Plan
The City of Woodinville is putting together a long-term plan to improve accessibility and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for our streets, sidewalks, parks, and other public facilities.
The City is looking to engage the local community throughout this planning process, particularly community members with disabilities. As they put together the plan, one of the topics the City is most interested in hearing about from residents and others who spend time here is where the City should focus its efforts over the next 3-5 years to fix accessibility barriers. Options include pedestrian crosswalks, locations near schools, and more. The City is also interested in hearing about any specific barriers of concern (such as a particular sidewalk curb-ramp on a student’s route to school).
The City has a Mobility for All ADA Transition plan webpage (https://engagewoodinville.com/mobility-for-all-plan) as well as a survey for families and students attending Woodinville schools who may have an interest in this topic. Completing the survey is the quickest and easiest way to provide feedback on priorities and help with barrier identification. Washington's K-12 Internet Access Program: Check Eligibility for Free Internet Access
Having reliable connectivity to the internet is critical for your student’s success during distance learning. The state recognizes this need, and has partnered with Ziply Fiber and Comcast/Xfinity to create Washington’s K–12 Internet Access Program, which gives eligible families free internet access so your student can connect to online learning from home.
This internet access opportunity will provide you with faster, stronger and more reliable connectivity than hotspots or tethering to mobile devices, which will better support your student. If eligible, your free internet access is available through June 30, 2021.

WHS 2020-21 Clubs
Building Our Falcon Community this School Year!
We are so excited for our students to join all the exciting clubs Woodinville has to offer. Here at WHS, students will find clubs ranging from a wide variety of interests, and WHS ASB has a lot in store for students to meet all these different clubs.
Below, through students' NSD Google account, they will find a link to a document with flyers from every Woodinville High School club. These flyers will have a brief description of each club as well how to contact said club. Lastly, in order to join a club students should fill out the Google form here: https://forms.gle/hBuNEvjNv7itgV1V9
This form will act as an intent to join form for all clubs at Woodinville High School. By filling out this form and providing personal information students are allowing club representatives to reach out at a later date with information on how to become a member and with updates on meetings and events.

2020-21 ATHLETICS REGISTRATION
FinalForms registration is OPEN for the 20-21 athletic seasons. You can register for Season 1 (fall), Season 2 (winter) and/or Season 4 (spring) sports at the same time.
Required PRIOR to Participation in Athletics
In order to participate in athletics, a FinalForms registration must be completed by both parent and student and a current sports physical must be on file with the WHS Athletic Office. Sports physicals are good for two years from the exam date.

InvestED is a 501 (c) (3) organization that provides funding to support the efforts of secondary schools throughout Washington State. They partner with 660 schools and assist more than 16,500 students with small amounts of short-term, item-specific, need-based funding – items such as shoes, coats, glasses, sports equipment, and academic fees. Their mission is to provide immediate help for students in need. Their goal is to encourage students to stay in school, return to school, or get involved within their learning community.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, our community continues to come together to assist to families and community members in need. This assistance includes childcare, employment, food, mental health support and other resources. Apply for Free & Reduced Price Meals Today!
While Northshore is currently providing free meals, this support is made possible by temporary USDA funding. If this funding changes, the District may be required to charge families based on their current eligibility for meals. Have you applied for free and reduced-price meals this year?
If your family qualified last year, you need to reapply this year to ensure that your student receives free or reduced price meals once the current free meals program ends. It is important to apply today so that your eligibility status doesn’t lapse. If an application was not in process for a returning student by October 14, 2020, the student’s account was automatically transferred to a paid account the next school day. Please know that the number of eligible students for free and reduced price meals connects to the District’s Title I funding, which provides additional support at schools to help students succeed. Additionally, if your family income has decreased, you may be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.
In addition to receiving free or reduced-price meals, your eligibility also provides
- Reduced fee for Camp Cedar Spring
- Reduced fee for PSAT and Advanced Placement Testing
- Reduced fee for sports/athletics
- Reduced fee for summer school
- Access to Backpack Program, which provides backpacks and school supplies
- Access to Operation School Bell, which provides clothes and personal products

School Lunch Information
NSD is offering free meals for all children ages 18 and younger.
Students do not need to be enrolled in the Northshore School District to receive meals. NSD requires that all families wear a mask and maintain physical distancing when picking up their meals. Thank you for helping to keep our drivers and families safe.
