PSAT Score Report Distribution & Informational Meetings
PSAT paper Score Report distribution will take place at the end of second period for:
  • Freshmen – Tuesday, January 15
  • Sophomores - Wednesday, January 16
  • Juniors – Thursday, January 17
Upon receipt of the Score Reports at the end of 2nd period, students will then go to an informational meeting regarding their October PSAT scores during Options in the Theater. Students unable to pick up their score reports on the assigned days should see Mrs. Porter in the Counseling Office.

PSAT/NMSQT scores are like road maps that show what students are doing well and what they should work on to get ready for the SAT and for college.
Students can learn how to get the most from their scores, as well as how they can get free personalized practice through Khan Academy for the SAT in the areas where they need most help.

As previously announced, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen who took the PSAT/NMSQT in October can also access and view their scores through their online College Board account. View this video for details on how to access scores.

Questions? Contact Ms. Brenner at sbrenner@nsd.org.

Winter Play: "Harvey"
January 30 - February 2, WHS Theater, 7pm
Woodinville High School Theatre Company is excited to present Mary Chase’s “Harvey”. This Pulitzer Prize winning play is a tale of friendship, family, and an invisible 6-foot one-and-a-half inches rabbit. Harvey pushes us to examine how we interact with people who are different than us, the unique power of families to both love and judge, the complexities of the human mind, and ultimately, the importance of staying true to oneself. It is filled with magic, fools in love, and bumbling buffoons, making this play exceptionally enjoyable for all ages.

Mental Health Matters!
From the world of Jennifer Cruze, MSW, LICSW, Teen Mental Health Counselor with Swedish jennifercruze@nsd.org
A New Year and New You
It’s that time of year again for New Year’s Resolutions. I saw this image from Emily McDowell recently and had to smile. There are pros and cons to resolutions, which I won’t get into here. Today let’s focus on the REFLECTION piece of setting resolutions. Believe it or not, teens are aware of the concept of making resolutions, and this is a great chance to have meaningful conversations.

Step 1: Get out some paper and write down A LIST OF YOUR STRENGTHS – ex: I have great school attendance, help out around the house, I’m good at math, a loyal friend. It might be hard at first, but will get easier as you go!

Step 2:
Look back on the last couple months and think about WHAT SKILLS YOU HAVE YOU HAVE USED THAT HAVE HELPED YOU SURVIVE your stress so far – ex: taking a break to play with my dog, taking a bath, doodling, going for a run outside.

Step 3: Now look forward and think about how you can CONTINUE TO USE THESE STRENGTHS AND SKILLS, as they have helped you get where you are today. You might even find that looking at your life in a positive light can help improve your mood.

If your reflections lead to resolutions, that’s great, but they don’t have to. If you do want to set goals, be sure to make them specific enough. Ask a trusted adult if you need help.

PARENTS, here’s where you come in. Teens tend to come up with grandiose ideas, given their stage of brain development, and can use some direction. Even if you think the goal is crazy, applaud them for thinking of it (“that’s a great goal!”), then ask “what can you do to help yourself reach that goal? Can you break it up into smaller parts?” as well as “how can I help you achieve your goal?” (ex: driving them to the place they want to volunteer at or getting a tutor). Your teen is on a journey and will succeed with you as their guide to have their best year ever.
So Happy New Year and Happy Reflecting!

SCREENAGERS:
Growing up in the Digital Age

Reservation Required

The Leota PTSA and Northshore Council PTSA are thrilled to present SCREENAGERS: Growing up in the Digital Age, a documentary about the biggest parenting issue of our time.
Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. As with her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.

SCREENAGERS addresses the most pervasive parenting issue of our time head on—depicting teen struggles over social media, video games and internet addiction. The film empowers kids to best navigate the digital world and provides practical resources to help them do it.
