Immigration Tip
Want to work in the U.S. after graduation? Apply for OPT!

F-1 students are eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) up to 90 days before completion of degree requirements. This means that students graduating in May 2021 are now eligible to start submitting their OPT applications to USCIS. Note that it usually takes at least 3 months for OPT applications to be processed by USCIS, but there has been a backlog at USCIS recently, so applications are taking longer to be processed.

If you have questions about the OPT application process, please read through the OPT information on the ISSS website or watch the Zoom recording of the OPT Info Session from February 18 (password:hjH1%p@L). If you have questions after reviewing this information, you are welcome to send questions to international@MiamiOH.edu or drop in for live chat with ISSS staff via the ISSS homepage at the following times:

  • Mon, Thur, Fri: 3:30 - 4:30pm
  • Tue, Wed: 9:00 - 10:00am
