CSU Esports Has New Campus Home
|
A ribbon cutting ceremony on the first floor of Fenn Hall helped unveil the brand-new Esports Lab, giving Cleveland State's the Esports team a rightful home on campus. The space will hold competitions for collegiate and high school teams and allow students to try out the sport via clubs or tournaments. This new home will only improve the team's level of competition and our community’s connection with the CSU Esports program.

Bringing Cannabis Safely Awareness to CSU
|
Erin Parr, MACP, CASAC-M and clinical supervisor, addressed the CSU community about the importance of safety awareness surrounding cannabis at an event on Sept. 26. Known affectionately as the “Weed Lady,” Parr talked about how cannabis followed her in her research surrounding clinical psychology and substance abuse counseling. She stressed the importance of being educated on the legal and chemical matters of marijuana with the passage of Issue 2 back in December of last year, which legalized recreational use in Ohio.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which highlights the growing importance of cybersecurity in our daily lives and encourages individuals and businesses to take important steps to secure our world and stay safe online. Here are four ways to do that.

Use strong passwords – long, unique and random.
- Update software – the easiest way to stay protected from security threats.
- Recognize and report phishing threats in your e-mails, text messages, direct messages or phone calls.

Turn on multifactor authentication to provide an extra layer of security on your accounts.

Assistant Dean Speaks at Prestigious Conference
|
Anne Nelson, senior assistant dean for Student Affairs and Academic Programs, was selected as a distinguished panelist at the 2024 National Women in Leadership Conference for Higher Education at the Harvard Faculty Club Oct. 8-9. Nelson participated in the session, “The ‘Only One’ in the Room: Thriving as the Sole Diverse Voice,” which focused on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by individuals who represent diverse perspectives in leadership roles. Congratulations, Anne!

From Cleveland to Scotland

Annie Jouan-Westlund — professor of French and chair of the Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures — visited the University of Edinburg and Saint Andrews to present on the legacy of 2022 Literature Nobel Prize laureate Annie Ernaux at a conference with the participation of the author. "From Reading Annie Ernaux to Writing: Didier Eribon, Edouard Louis" investigated the influence of Ernaux's transpersonal works in D. Eribon and Edouard Louis' hybrid transclass narratives. Congratulations, Annie!
