January is National Mentoring Month!

YWCA GameChangers is a one-of-a-kind violence prevention program for middle school boys to learn how to prevent violence against women and girls, and create positive community change. GameChangers is facilitated by volunteer, male mentors who meet weekly with GameChangers participants to discuss topics such as healthy relationships, violence in relationships, and bystander intervention.
We are grateful for our incredible roster of volunteer mentors! This National Mentoring Month, we challenge YOU to get involved. Change the game and apply to be a mentor today by clicking here.

UTK Book Club Partners with PWC REACH

We are grateful to our friends and volunteers from UTK's Department of English. UTK Book Club members generously donate time weekly to meeting with our Phyllis Wheatley Center REACH Interns. These VOLunteers encourage discussions around books and empower our youth in Language Arts. The group has even donated books to each individual REACH intern and the support doesn't stop there. Department of English Professor and Director of Graduate Studies, Ben Lee, even joined us for Diversity Day and Race Against Racism, running in our 5k! We appreciate the continued support!

Diversity Day and Race Against Racism

On January 14th, YWCA's 27th annual Diversity Day and Race Against Racism was held at the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center in East Knoxville, where hundreds of community members gathered to celebrate diversity and embrace YWCA's mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. Performances included Praise, Honour and Glory; Felecia Outsey; Drums Up Guns Down; Phyllis Wheatley Center's dance team, and more! Diversity Day activities were followed up the 5k Race Against Racism and 1-mile Unity Walk. Thank you to all who joined us! Look at the fun below!

Phyllis Wheatley Center's Kitchen is Heating Up!

Look what's stirring up at the Phyllis Wheatley Center.  Students have been participating in one cooking class per week, learning basic culinary skills and how to make healthy meals on a dime.  Our students have enjoyed every minute of it. Take a look below!
