School Celebrations: Thursday, May 14 - Sunday, May 17 |
-
Lineup locations, times, and venues are listed on the Commencement schedule. Graduates should report for lineups an hour before the ceremony begins.
-
StagePasses will be sent to graduates next week. You will scan your StagePass, or a card with your StagePass’s QR code (provided at lineups), before crossing the stage. It will activate the recording of your name and display it on the screen.
- Graduates who have not registered should ask for a gold card when they report to lineups. Their name will be read live at the event.
-
Guests with mobility issues attending school celebrations at the Charles E. Smith Center may use Gate 3 to enter, with one companion, thirty minutes before doors open.
- No diplomas are distributed at Commencement Week events. They are mailed up to eight weeks after conferral.

Commencement on the National Mall: Sunday, May 17 |
-
The unified Commencement brings together GW’s ten schools for the awarding of honorary degrees with remarks from leadership and your student speaker, all in the shadow of the Washington Monument. Deans call their schools to stand, and President Ellen M. Granberg will ceremonially confer degrees. Graduates' names are not announced, nor do they walk across the stage.
- Graduates should report to the gate assigned in their StagePass.
- Guests should enter through the gate assigned to them on their ticket. They must show the QR code on their ticket, either on a mobile device or as a printout. Note: There are no exceptions. Anyone without a ticket will be directed to an overflow viewing area outside the event perimeter to watch the ceremony.
- Guests who need access to the ADA seating area may enter through Gate 6, regardless of their gate assignment, and may have one companion. Download an ADA drop-off pass. It allows access to the drop-off area only — it is not a parking pass.
- No additional guest tickets are available. Our site on the National Mall has a limited capacity, and to ensure the safety and security of graduates and guests, we must adhere to this restriction. We appreciate your understanding.
-
No disruptions will be permitted during the ceremony, including the use of prohibited items. Individuals who create a disruption or have a prohibited item will be escorted out of the event by security personnel or the U.S. Park Police.
-
The event will be held as scheduled unless we are directed to move by the National Park Service or if conditions do not allow us to safely conduct the ceremony as planned. The alternate site, for graduates only, is the Charles E. Smith Center.
