Your gap semester is a chance to chart your own course! Will you explore a commitment by volunteering your time? Take a college course? Pursue a resume-building work experience? Let us know!
Meanwhile, you'll be preparing for arrival to NYC next semester, and we're here to help. Check this Spring into Liberal Studies newsletter for important academic deadlines and upcoming opportunities to connect with us. Look for it on the first Friday of each month! You can continue to refer to NYU Spring Admissions for reminders from other NYU offices, such as Housing and Residence Life.
For international students, please be sure to connect with the Office of Global Services (OGS) to review your visa requirements. Click this link to schedule an appointment with an OGS Advisor.
However you choose to spend your gap semester, we hope it will be a productive and fulfilling experience. Contact your advisor if you have any questions along the way!

Hello! I am so looking forward to meeting you in January! I am a 3rd Culture Kid - born in South Africa, and raised in Canada, Switzerland and Belgium! I moved to the U.S. when I was 18 to pursue my bachelor's degree at James Madison University, where I had received a field hockey scholarship. I've lived in Virginia, Texas, California, Washington and now live in Jersey City, just across the Hudson River! We have two dogs who have my whole heart, and I love reading, going on bike rides in Liberty State Park, and exploring all that NYC has to offer. We are thrilled that you have decided to join us in the LS Core, and can't wait to help you achieve your dreams here at NYU!

Hi! I'm very much looking forward to meeting you in January! I'm originally from the South Shore of Massachusetts. I earned my undergraduate and first graduate degrees in English Education from the Wheelock College of Education and Human Development at Boston University and am currently finishing my PhD in Comparative Literature at The Graduate Center, CUNY. My dissertation focuses on modernism in English, French, and Spanish. I've taught world literature and writing at Baruch College since 2014 and I taught Arts and Cultures towards the Crossroads in Liberal Studies this past spring. I'm passionate about expanding access to the humanities, liberal arts education, and experiential education opportunities. My hobbies include learning foreign languages, running, studying visual art, music, film, and television.

Hello and welcome to LS! I cannot wait to learn more about you and your interests, and hopefully connect you with some of the many opportunities at Liberal Studies! I I completed my undergraduate degree in both Sociology and Business at Hartwick College, followed by a master's degree in Educational Leadership & Advocacy at NYU Steinhardt. My most recent position was as an academic advisor in the Early College Program at Unity Prep Charter High School. Before this role, I coordinated field learning and community partnerships for MSW students in the NYU Silver School of Social Work. Earlier in my career, I was a student success specialist at Hartwick and a lead mentor in their mentoring network. I have coordinated educational initiatives for the Brooklyn Community Board 9, providing student support through the NYC Department of Education, providing educational consulting services through the NYU EmpowerED Consulting program, and tutoring middle/high school students in writing and literacy through City Tutors at CUNY City College. I'm a multigenerational "Violet": my mother is a longstanding administrator at the Tandon School of Engineering too. I hope to offer you insights from my perspectives as both a staff member and alumna.
