Empowering learners through literacy.

|
As we reach the end of our fiscal year, we’re thrilled to share some of the incredible progress we’ve made since July 1. Thanks to your unwavering support, the Nashville Adult Literacy Council has been able to empower countless individuals through literacy and education.
Here are two highlights of our work so far:
- 259 learners have achieved a goal. Each year we aim for 50% of our learners to achieved a personal or academic goal.
- 38 brand new volunteers. Our work depends on the hard work of our instructors and volunteer tutors, many of whom stay with us year-over-year. Volunteering with us is an accessible and enjoyable commitment and opportunity to connect.

These accomplishments wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, donors, and community partners. Thank You. |

Big Wins for a Learner and her Volunteer Tutor at NALC!
|
Van and her volunteer tutor Josephine have been working together for almost seven years. Josephine had this to say about her progress:
"Over an almost seven-year period of working directly with Van and expanding our lessons to incorporate learning and information beyond the NALC provided material - we have worked on a number of lessons on varied topics including 71 history lessons concentrating on Nashville and Tennessee history as well as lessons on each of the 50 states.
We have continued to focus on areas of interest to Van, primarily over 81 medical centric lessons, that cover a variety of subjects including reflexology, the various parts and systems of the body and an assortment of diseases and conditions. The diseases and conditions lessons cover a diverse spectrum of information including overviews, symptoms, causes, risks, diagnoses, treatment and prevention."

"Van is an excellent student. Her reading skills continue to improve, and her vocabulary has increased greatly. As part of her community outreach with her Vietnamese community she uses these skills to interpret for various individuals and situations on a daily basis. Her interest in medical information, specifically, helps her to expand her ability to work with doctors, nurses and insurance agents in a variety of situations." |
