Youth develop values for Fitchburg Teen Center.
Eight teens representing Madison, Verona, and Oregon worked for two months to create key values for the proposed new Fitchburg Teen Center: diversity, community, celebrating cultures, mental health support, and career development. These values will help inform their next step, developing a Youth Teen Survey – coming soon! This is a photo-video project and reflects diverse cultures, values, activities, and other aspects of the neighborhood. Our Community Youth Development Educator, Taylor Seale, partnered with the City of Fitchburg, EQT By Design, and Healthy Kids Collaborative on the project.

2022 Community Garden Summit a success
The 2022 Community Garden Summit, held virtually on Saturday, February 5th, was a big success. Participants gave positive feedback:
“This session was so cool! Broadened my view of gardening and crop cultivation in terms of geography, language, and culture… Thank you! I loved all four presenters!
“I came in with some experience and still learned something! I was super impressed by the language offerings and inclusivity dynamic.”
Attendees connected with Dane County community gardens, Wisconsin, and neighboring states were excited to learn from various speakers and connect with other community members. The workshop topics ranged from gardening practices to strengthening garden-community connections and partnerships. Madison Public Library shared information on their seed library and summit-related materials that attendees could pick up from library branch locations.
Thanks to the UW-Madison Division of Extension’s language access resources and connections with amazing interpreters, simultaneous Spanish interpretation was provided. The Community Garden Summit is an annual gathering of gardeners organized by the Dane County Gardens Network – a partnership between Rooted, UW-Madison Extension Dane County, and the City of Madison.
