Mental Health Policy

H.R. 34- 21st Century Cures Act. This $6.3 billion Act was signed into law in early December. The Act has been touted as the largest mental health legislation since the 2008 mental health parity act. The bipartisan legislation makes mental health a national priority and coordinates how mental health care is delivered. The Act includes provisions that promote early intervention for psychosis programs, assertive community treatment and crisis intervention teams. It provides additional funding for the BRAIN Initiative, the Cancer Moonshot and the Precision Medicine Initiative. It also includes plans to speed up drug development and fight the opioid epidemic.
