Recruiting Eligible Scientists for Exciting Ependymoma Fellowship Opportunity

National Brain Tumor Society invites applications for the 2024 CERN and Robert Connor Dawes Scientific Fellowship. Unlike other rounds, this round has been uniquely designed to help accelerate the formation of a new ependymoma research team being formed at the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre (CBCC) within the University of Queensland, Australia. The position will also work closely with colleagues in the University’s Ian Frazer Centre for Children’s Immunotherapy Research. The Fellowship is fully funded for two years, and the successful applicant would begin work in 2024. Applications for the 2024 CERN and Robert Connor Dawes Scientific Fellowship are due by Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023. This prestigious fellowship is made possible by the ongoing partnership between the CERN Foundation, a program of the National Brain Tumor Society, and the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation.

Advancing Ependymoma Research Through the Fellowship Award

The CERN fellowship provides support for two years of funding to promising researchers whose focus is on ependymoma. Since 2016, five different international pediatric institutions have received this prestigious award. This work is made possible by your support and the generous support of our partner, the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation.

Join Us This September

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) is a time to recognize, advocate for, and honor children who have been affected by cancer and the families that care for them. This September, the National Brain Tumor Society highlights the devastating realities of a brain tumor diagnosis for children and families by sharing important progress being made in the field, raising resources to support ongoing and future research efforts, and providing opportunities for our community to share their stories and raise awareness.
As brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death and the most commonly diagnosed cancer in children and adolescents ages 19 and younger, the brain tumor community has an enormous stake and voice in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The CERN Foundation and the National Brain Tumor Society have joined forces to help people with ependymoma and advance ependymoma research toward the development of new and better treatments through the creation of the Ependymoma Fund for Research and Education. Today, the CERN Foundation is officially a designated program of the National Brain Tumor Society. Donations to the Ependymoma Fund for Research and Education will be made on the NBTS website and used to support research efforts that will benefit both ependymoma patients and research through CERN. Emphasis will be placed on CERN’s historical model of supporting work that translates basic science into clinical practice. The Fund will also address overcoming barriers to clinical trial accrual and the development of new clinical studies for ependymoma patients. Additional funds will be used to support educational efforts through print, media, and awareness events. The new collaborative Ependymoma Fund will continue CERN’s practice and tradition of involving and collaborating with other scientists, medical providers, foundations and supporters of ependymoma research.
