Student filmmaker Joe Kinneen produced a story for Rocky Mountain PBS' Native Lens about Fort Lewis College cross country runner Angel Curley. Curley talks about her family heritage, how she got involved in running, and how she’s been impacted by COVID-19.

Students participate in new area of physiology research

Exercise Physiology students paired with Absolute Physical Therapy to conduct a study measuring the effects of dry needling of the tibialis posterior muscle, which is one of the main controls for the arch of the foot. This area of research is not well developed so this was a unique opportunity for FLC students. 

New grant will help connect rural students to FLC

Fort Lewis College hopes to open "rural connectivity centers" in Colorado and on the Navajo Nation, with the goal of driving better engagement in distance learning and reducing barriers for rural students. FLC received a $950,060 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program to facilitate this project.

Student shares impact of tuition waiver and Native community at FLC 

In light of a new bill that would provide Native college students in-state tuition at Colorado institutions, Noah Shadlow, a junior at FLC and Hozhoni first attendant, spoke to The Denver Post about the impact of the Native American Tuition Waiver and the importance of community and cultural events for Native students.

Tapati Dutta brings storytelling into academics   

Assistant Professor of Public Health Tapati Dutta was a guest speaker on 4 Corners Art Forum to discuss how narrative and community-based storytelling can be used to help teach difficult or uncomfortable topics, which can in turn empower marginalized communities and lead to systemic change.

It's no secret that Skyhawks (especially Skyler) love to hit the slopes of our local mountains.
College Magazine ranked FLC as one of the top ten colleges for skiers and snowboarders, giving a nod to the new Ski Operations certificate and free Purgatory Resort ski pass for first-year students.
