Update #3 regarding in-person human subjects community-based research activities
Dear Colleagues,
This is an update to the memo shared on August 31, 2020, regarding human subjects research for Campus IRB protocols.
We are preparing to resume research that occurs in the community (churches, businesses, etc.) and participants' homes. As with our current planning for on-premises face-to-face human subjects research, each protocol is unique, and therefore, individual plans must be approved prior to resuming in-person study activities.
If you are interested in planning to resume human subjects research of this type, please contact marnie.rhoads@duke.edu to obtain further instructions, including a copy of the planning template. These will be reviewed and approved centrally, in coordination with your respective research unit or school.
Please recognize that, as with all things relating to this pandemic, we must remain flexible. If we find that conditions in our state or beyond change, we may need to consider pausing activities again in the future. We appreciate your partnership and patience as we work to safely resume these activities.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Carin,
Vice President for Research
