Honoring Black History Month: Mary P. Burrill

Alumna Mary P. Burrill, the first woman of color to graduate from Emerson, was an early 20th-century African American playwright who taught and inspired many of the writers of the Harlem Renaissance. Honoring her legacy, the College established the Mary Burrill Scholarship in 2002 to promote and support diversity at Emerson. Read more.
