Why I do what I do at NYU:
I am starting my 16th year at NYU, and every year has been different, challenging and exciting in its own way. I work closely with the NYU student athletes on campus, and this group constantly impresses me with their talents and dedication to their academic studies as well as their sport. Being a college athlete is not easy, and I am here to ensure that they are able to practice and compete in a healthy and safe environment.
Lately, I have become more involved in wellbeing initiatives across campus. Students can flourish if they are able to prioritize their mental and physical health, but placing emphasis in those areas can be difficult when our students are living in such a fast-paced environment. I love connecting students with resources that can best support them throughout their career as an NYU student, because their needs will change during their time on campus.
One tip for supporting your student during this time.
I know it may be challenging when your student is likely on their own for the first time in their life, but give them the space that they need in order to navigate and explore their new surroundings. NYU and New York City can be a bit overwhelming at first, but encourage them to get involved in on campus groups and activities so that they can meet new people and establish some connections to their new home away from home.
