Dear NYU Parents, Families and Loved Ones,

I hope that your student had time to rest and refresh during spring break last week and is ready to thrive for the remainder of the Spring Semester!

During this period of NYU leadership transition, President-Designate Linda G. Mills is engaging the university community in a conversation about NYU's future. In her letter to the NYU community, Linda posed multiple questions and invited students, faculty, staff, and alumni to contribute their answers and pose new questions:

How might we continue to strengthen and advance NYU’s academic trajectory?
How might we create and sustain a fully inclusive community where everyone can thrive?
How might we maximize our potential to change society for the better?
What other questions might we ask ourselves as a community? Why are these questions important to you?

Did you know?

NYU Athletics boasts the first woman head coach of NCAA men’s soccer! Check out the latest Conversations Podcast, hosted by President Andy Hamilton, with Kim Wyant, head coach. When she was appointed to this role in 2015, Wyant was the only woman coaching an NCAA men's soccer team. In Fall 2022, she gained wide publicity for a historic matchup against Julianne Sitch—the new coach for the U-Chicago men's team. In addition to her years of success as a coach, Wyant was also a highly accomplished player.

Campus Safety Security Review Update

Last semester, Vice President of Global Campus Safety, Fountain Walker, announced a safety review of our residence halls following four incidents of non-authorized individuals gaining access to the residence halls in November. In January, Vice President Walker updated the residential community on that security review, outlining the scope, findings, and actions taken now that the review has been completed.

Fall 2023 Class Schedule to be Released Next Week

As per NYU’s Academic Calendar, the Fall 2023 class schedule will be published next week. Students continuing their studies at NYU will begin thinking about their fall schedules, in anticipation of registration opening on April 23rd.

This time can elicit a range of emotions for students - from pure excitement to deep uncertainty - making it a good moment for you to engage in a conversation about how your student is feeling. Perhaps you want to ask how they feel their studies are going, whether they are happy with the direction their academic career is taking, and what they might be planning for next year. If that doesn't feel like the right approach for your situation, you can always encourage your student to speak to their Academic Advisor, and get some advice early in the process before the rush of Fall class registration takes hold.

Spotlight: NYU’s latest student-centered building - The opening of the John A. Paulson Center

In January, NYU proudly began the opening of the new John A. Paulson Center on Mercer St. This beautiful new LEED Gold (anticipated) complex will address pressing academic space needs at NYU, including providing nearly five dozen new classrooms, unprecedented new facilities for dramatic and musical arts education, new athletic and recreational facilities, common areas for community gatherings, student housing, and faculty housing among them.

The Paulson Center, which serves the widest range of uses of any NYU building, is divided into “neighborhoods”—the athletics facilities are found in the below-ground level space. The lower floors have classrooms, common areas, lounges, outdoor space, and food service towards the north end of the building, and performing arts education spaces towards the south end of the building. The upper floors are for housing—student housing in the center and north ends, and faculty housing at the south end of the building.
