This talk examines the rise of “digital agriculture” in India, understood as the use of tools like AI, satellite imaging and remote sensing, and mobile platforms in farming and food systems. It will briefly explain what these technologies are and how they are being implemented through local startups, multinational agribusiness and Big Tech firms, and government programs. It then asks a set of simple but important questions: How are these changes affecting farmers and rural communities? What do they mean for local environments? And how might they reshape the role of the Indian state in agriculture?
