On behalf of the Department of Justice and the National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice, you are invited to a community convening to discuss the National Initiative project.

The National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice is a three-year project funded by the Department of Justice. Its goal is to improve relationships and increase trust between communities and the criminal justice system, as well as to advance the public and scholarly understandings of the issues contributing to those relationships.

Minneapolis was one of six “pilot sites” selected for the National Initiative. At this convening, we will introduce the goals and methods of the project. We will also explain how you can participate more directly in this historic initiative, and how through research and community collaboration we can begin to rebuild trust.

Please share this notice with other community organizations and residents whom you think might be interested. We look forward to meeting you soon.

From CTUL member and Central neighborhood resident Jesus Colima:
My name is Jesus Colima and I'm the mother of 4 children.  I work overnight cleaning Target for Carlson Building Maintenance, but I have to have a second job because I only make $9.00 an hour. The wage is not enough to feed, house, and clothe my family. Working two jobs takes its toll as well - I barely sleep and often feel weak.  When I am at home cooking for my kids, I am exhausted.  I am prepared to go on strike on June 9th because I deserve a job that pays a fair wage, so I can work just one job, take care of my health, and spend time with my family. I invite you to come out and support me and my co-workers on strike with CTUL!
