Grants Information
The National Science Foundation (NSF) issued a notice on the “Implementation of Policy Changes to Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) 24-1, Supplement 1” which applies to all financial assistance awarded on or after December 8, 2025. There are a total of 16 revisions, including but not limited to SBIR/STTR Project Pitch Submissions Chapter I.D), Proposal Specific Revision Thresholds (Chapter II.F), and Financial Requirements and Payments (Chapter VIII).
Research Misconduct
The University of Illinois Board of Trustees approved an Interim Policy on Integrity in Research and Scholarly Activities at their November 13, 2025 meeting. The Interim Policy will be available online (https://go.uic.edu/UIResIntegrity) on January 1, 2026 when it goes live. The final policy is being reviewed by the University senates before consideration by the Board of Trustees. Revised procedures, addressing the changes in Policy, will also be available online (http://go.uic.edu/uicresmisconduct) on January 1, 2026.
Included in the NSF notice provided above, the PPAG revision for Research Misconduct (Chapter XII.C) incorporated the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools. Specifically, the following language (underlined text) was added: ‘RESEARCH MISCONDUCT means fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism, whether committed by an individual directly or through the use or assistance of other person, entities, or tools, including artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools, in proposing or performing research funded by NSF, reviewing research proposals submitted to NSF, or in reporting research results funded by NSF.’
Research Security
Also included in the NSF notice provided above, the PPAG revision for Research Security (Chapter IX.C) was issued by NSF on July 10, 2025 in the ‘NSF Important Notice 149 (sections 1 and 2): Updates to NSF Research Security Policies’.
Responsible Conduct of Research
Next month’s Responsible of Conduct of Research (RCR) Workshop is scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, from 11:30am – 12:30pm in 1043 ERF (Engineering Research Facility, 1st floor) located at 842 West Taylor Street on the East Campus. Abigail Goben, Professor and Data Management Librarian, UIC Library and Data Policy Advisor, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, will be presenting on ‘Data Sharing: Giving and Receiving’.
