Dear Valued Member,
Thank you for being part of a special industry which has served the public for over five decades, providing access to cash and a variety of value-added financial services, to millions upon millions of cardholders.

It was a very different world back then when ATMs were invented in the late 1960s. Today is more of an internet-dominated, highly computerised, mobile-digital world. I’m very confident that ATMs will play a core role in this new world. Take crypto, for example. Thousands of ATMs already enable cash-to-crypto and crypto-to-cash exchanges and the official ATMIA Next Gen architectural blueprint makes provision for cryptocurrency buying and selling on a standard, vendor-agnostic, interoperable basis. Take the mobile phone, too. Transacting at ATMs with an app, instead of with a card, already happens and, again, Next Gen ATMs are API App ATMs which will render the card increasingly redundant over time. The dream of ATMs becoming indispensable financial services hubs in communities across the world will be greatly accelerated by adoption of the Next Gen blueprint. In short, the ATM industry is ready for the future. Let’s be proud of our four year journey to reinvent our technological ecosystem.

I know things are still hard due to covid-19. We’re not out of the woods just yet, but the end is in sight, over the horizon. Until then, when we can finally network in person again and resume normalcy, ATMIA will continue to implement its ATM and Cash revival advocacy plan, will continue to roll out Next Gen ATM certifications, will continue to assist our members wherever they are in whichever way we can help. We have served the industry for more than two decades and we are with you all the way. Spare a moment to congratulate yourself for being part of a great industry….It will persist far into the future.

Warmest regards,

Mike Lee
