Responsible Conduct of Research
Next month’s Responsible of Conduct of Research (RCR) Workshop is scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2026 from 11:30am – 12:30pm in 1043 ERF (Engineering Research Facility, 1st floor) located at 842 West Taylor Street on the East Campus. Professor and Associate Dean of Research Daniel Maggin, from the College of Education, will be presenting on ‘Practices Make Perfect: Questionable Research Practices in Evidence Development’. Please be sure to register as a light lunch will be provided. If you are unable to attend, please send an email to OVCREvents@uic.edu to cancel your registration.
Mentorship
The Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) is accepting applications for their ‘Research Mentor Training Workshop’ being held on May 19 and 21, 2026. For eligibility guidelines, application process, timeline information and details, please visit their Research Mentor Training page.
Grant Applications and Information
Dr. Jon Lorsch, NIH Deputy Director for Extramural Research posted ‘NIH’s Path to a Simpler Funding Opportunity Landscape’ which outlined the streamlining of the Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) and the application process.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently issued several notices:

- Request for Information (RFI): Inviting Comments and Suggestions on a Framework for the
NIH-Wide Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2027-2031, NOT-OD-26-047; -
Publication of the Revised NIH Grants Policy Statement for Fiscal Year 2026, NOT-OD-26-057;
- Prior Approval Requirement for Changes to Domestic Subawards, NOT-OD-26-062;
-
Harmonizing the NIH Definition of “Intervention” with the Common Rule, NOT-0D-26-063; and
- Update of NIH Late Application Submission Policy and End of Continuous Submission, NOT-OD-26-064;

Summary of Significant Changes to the NIHGPS PDF including,
-
NIH no longer recognizes foreign subawards, (NOT-OD-25-104) but has implemented a new international collaboration funding mechanism (NOT-OD-25-155);
-
Added definition of and security measures required for human biospecimens, (NOT-OD-25-160);
- Updated to clarify that, for PD/PIs and senior/key personnel, monetary donations given with an expectation must be disclosed;

Added calendar year limits for applications from an individual Principal Investigator/ Program Director or Multiple Principal Investigator, (NOT-OD-25-132);

Added a new section outlining the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence, (NOT-OD-25-132);

Updated manuscript public availability requirements (NOT-OD-25-047 and NOT-OD-25-101); and,

Added a section describing research security training (NOT-OD-26-017).
