Mark Baum to Speak at LSTCON
Mark Baum, founder and CEO of Harrow Health, Inc., a new, exciting entry to Tennessee’s biotech industry, will be a keynote speaker at LSTCON on Nov. 14. He will discuss biopharma industry opportunities for our region and the mission of Harrow Health. In June, Gov. Bill Lee announced Harrow Health would relocate its headquarters to Nashville.
Harrow Health owns a portfolio of health care businesses, including ImprimisRx, the nation’s leading ophthalmology pharmaceutical compounding business. Baum is also a founder and board member of Eton Pharmaceuticals, Surface Pharmaceuticals, Melt Pharmaceuticals, Mayfield Pharmaceuticals, Radley Pharmaceuticals and Stowe Pharmaceuticals.
Prior to Harrow Health, Baum was a senior advisor to VC-backed Curology.com; the founder of TBLF, LLC, a private investment fund manager; and the founder of YesRx, an HIV-focused pharmacy business. Advocating for access and affordability has been central to Baum's two decades in the pharmaceutical sector.

LST News Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corporation, a leading global medical technology company based in New Jersey, announced yesterday that it has acquired Arkis Biosciences Inc., a privately-held company that offers a portfolio of neurosurgical devices. Among them is the CerebroFlo® external ventricular drainage (EVD) catheter with Endexo®technology, a permanent additive designed to reduce the potential for catheter obstruction due to thrombus formation.
The company is Hera Health Solutions, appropriately from Memphis. It is a pharmaceutical device company specializing in the development and commercialization of long-acting treatments through proprietary bioerodible implants. Between now and the event, 70 more participants will be announced. Memphis-based Start Co. is co-producing the three-day event along with the Established Team.
In addition to the 18 startups recently inducted into the Nashville Entrepreneur Center's Project Healthcare Portfolio, eight others have been invited to participate in a modified curriculum, now being tailored for piloting. According to EC Product Experience and Marketing Lead Jon Martz, the pilot's curriculum will be very similar to the Portfolio template, with some adjustments to optimize the program for this set of companies.
The strategy includes the newly finalized Inpatient Prospective Payment System rule for fiscal year 2020. The final rule will allow drugmakers to receive add-on payments for some new antibiotics even if they don't meet some U.S. Food and Drug Administration clinical improvement criteria. That add-on payment will also be increased from 50% to 75%, Verma said.
The plan has two parts, the first being a notice of proposed rulemaking that creates a pilot project for states, wholesalers and pharmacists on how they would import drugs from Canada at a cheaper price than in the U.S. The second part is a guidance from the FDA to manufacturers of FDA-approved drugs that would be imported from Canada into the U.S. The guidance would allow the manufacturer to offer a lower price than what their current distribution contracts require in order to compete with the imported drug price.
