America Chambers
Assistant Professor America Chambers isn’t worried about artificial intelligence overthrowing humanity. In her field of natural language processing, she studies how computers interpret text and teaches her students how to build algorithms that can comprehend written language. We recently spoke with Chambers about her current research, how she taught a computer to write poetry, and why we’re a long way from computers taking over the world.

LOGGERS LOVE JAZZ The Puget Sound Jazz Orchestra was joined by Greta Matassa for a Valentine’s Day performance last week. Inducted into the Earshot Jazz Hall of Fame in 2014 and voted Northwest Vocalist of the Year seven times in 15 years, Matassa stepped in for Dee Daniels, who could not appear due to illness. The Jazz Orchestra performance with Daniels will be rescheduled for later this spring.
