Happy New Year from the Division of Student Experience!

Dear ,

Welcome back for the spring 2019 semester. Every new semester brings a chance to start over and allows us to focus on being the best versions of ourselves. This New Year provides me with an opportunity to reflect and continue my work, giving students the best Experience humanly possible during their time at YSU. I plan to continue helping all students reach their full potential through their educational endeavors and all the wonderful opportunities provided for them.

Before winter break, 7 students from the Division of Student Experience were recognized for their dedication to the Division and how they demonstrate the Division’s mission and core values while working in student positions and in their day-to-day lives. These students were invited to a luncheon at Republic Pizzeria on Friday, December 7 to celebrate their contributions to Student Experience. Congratulations to Hannah Telesz (Kilcawley Center), Jordan Roush (Kilcawley Center), Kayla Hay (Graphic Services), Laura Garvin (Graphic Services), Lindsey Bechter (Campus Recreation), Megan Schlett (Campus Recreation), and Sachith Kodikara (Graphic Services).

We also bid Judy Pavalko farewell as she retired from the University on December 21. She saw students in the Student Health Center for nearly 25 years. Take a bow Judy, you deserve it.

I want to wish all of you the best of luck this semester. Let’s make it a great one!

GROCERIES ON CAMPUS!
New Giant Eagle Penguin Pickup at the Cove.

In response to Student Government’s efforts to conveniently provide groceries to students on campus, YSU is partnering with Giant Eagle for on-campus delivery of groceries twice weekly. Students will be able to order and pay online, then pick up their groceries at the Cove in Kilcawley Center on Mondays and Thursdays.

Student Organizations Fair

Dates: January 15, January 16, January 17
Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Location: Lower Arcade, Kilcawley Center (outside Pete’s Treats)

The Spring Semester Student Organizations Fair is a great way for students to find involvement opportunities on campus. Students will have a chance to get information about student organizations and meet current organization members. Visit the fair to decide which organization is the best fit for you!

Don’t forget to make a special trip to the Club Sports fair on January 16. You will have the opportunity to meet club athletes and learn more about the 18 club sports offered by YSU. The club sports teams will be located in the Cove for any interested athletes.

NOMINATE AN EMERGING LEADER

Faculty and Staff members, do you know an emerging leader? We are accepting nominations for next year's Emerging Leader Program Cohort. Nominees must be entering their sophomore year in Fall 2019 and be in good academic standing to qualify for the program. Please submit the nomination form by March 1, 2019.

Meet the Staff

Cameron Adams
Assistant Director of Operations and Guest Services, Campus Rec

From: Western Pennsylvania
Came to YSU: January 2019

Cameron received his Bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University in Sports Management. He earned his Master's degree in Sports Management from Washington State University (WSU).

His internship at the Student Recreation Center led to him becoming a Graduate Assistant and getting hired as the Coordinator of Facility Operations. He has spent the last six years in varying roles at WSU.

Cameron has helped the WSU Recreation Department run zero waste events. He was the co-chair of the Student Development Committee, and he also became a certified Gallup Strength’s Finder Coach among other things.

He is excited to use these experiences to help take this next step and join the YSU team!

Erin Hungerman
Associate Director, Student Conduct

From: Elyria, Ohio
Came to YSU: January 2019

Erin received her Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University. She earned her Master of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Colorado State University (CSU).

After serving in various residence life positions at CSU, Erin returned to Ohio to work at The University of Toledo (UT) as the Coordinator for Student Conduct and Community Standards.

She believes strongly in the value of education within the student conduct process and has seen some of the best student leaders grow through self-reflection after violations. She feels conduct meetings are a valuable opportunity to learn from and connect with students.

Erin's interests include social justice and advocacy, random articles she encounters on Twitter, cheering for Cleveland sports teams, pub trivia (she once competed in a national championship), reading, video games, petting dogs, and photography.

Erin is excited to join the YSU team and develop partnerships with folks across campus!
