| Reflection helps you and your students close the learning loop and build metacognitive skills that deepen insight and growth.
Consider incorporating reflection assignments, modeling reflection as an instructor, encouraging metacognition, and providing feedback on reflections at this point in the term.

Rethink grading and assessment: Join PSU’s new Alternative Grading Community of Practice |
Presented by Student Academic Support Services (SASS) & the Office of Academic Innovation (OAI) |
PSU's 2024 Student Experience Survey found that nearly 90% of students reported emotional or mental health challenges, and fewer than half felt a sense of belonging. Assessment practices are one of the most powerful ways faculty can make a difference.
Portland State is launching a new Community of Practice for teaching faculty this winter term who want to reimagine grading to foster equity, well-being, and deeper learning. Grounded in the nationally recognized GOAL Framework, this five-session program supports you in piloting growth-oriented, sustainable approaches that move beyond points and high-stakes exams.
Why join?
- Build practices that align with your teaching values and support student belonging.
-
Reduce grading burdens while deepening engagement.
- Connect with PSU colleagues and national movements in ungrading, contract grading, and competency-based learning.
Stipend: Eligible Spring 2026 PSU teaching faculty who complete the program receive $750 compensation for 24 hours of work.
Applications are due November 14. The cohort runs January 9 through March 6, 2026.

PSU's InnovAIte Academy now accepting applications for teaching, research, and operation cohorts at Portland State |
The first cohort of PSU's InnovAIte Academy will culminate in the inaugural InnovAIte Symposium on October 31. We are excited to announce that a second cohort will take place from November 2025 through April 2026! This program is designed to empower PSU faculty and staff to harness the potential of Generative AI across research, teaching, and operations.
To join the second cohort of this transformational learning opportunity, please complete the program application, including a brief statement of your interest in the program. The application should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. With only 100 spots available across all three tracks, we encourage early submission. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and we anticipate high demand from faculty and staff across all departments who are eager to participate in this transformative initiative. For full consideration, please submit your application by November 5, 2025.
