Message from your WHS Counselors

Counselors are shifting gears from schedule changes and looking forward to working more closely with our seniors as they prepare for life after graduation. College application planning can be overwhelming and time consuming and we want Seniors to know we are here to support you!
Check out these resources:
   * College Apps and Snacks are coming! While we support the application due dates, we invite seniors to sign up to meet with counselors to ask questions about the application process, have time to work on their applications, and enjoy some dorm-room style snacks. Our first Apps and Snacks events will take place on Friday, October 15th, October 22nd, and November 5th. Keep an eye on your email for more information regarding how to sign up.
   * Naviance is a helpful tool to access a variety of post-secondary planning resources such as college searches, scholarship support, transcript requests, and houses the mandatory High School and Beyond Plan required for all seniors to complete. Seniors applying through Common Application will want to make sure to link their account to their Naviance account. Counselors will be offering a series of videos detailing steps to the application process!
If you are having a hard time accessing your Naviance account, please visit Ms. Kia in the College and Career Center or email her at mkiakotos@nsd.org.

WHS Counseling website: The WHS Counseling website has a plethora of resources ranging from College and Career Readiness links and videos, Naviance and High School and Beyond details, and even a virtual calming room!

We are thrilled to see students back on campus and enjoy meeting our underclassmen that are new to the building. We can't wait to work with you and support your academic journey this year!

College Visits for Woodinville High School Students

WHS students can now sign up for college visits!  This year we will offer some visits in-person and some visits virtually.  If the visit you are interested in attending is a virtual visit, it will still take place in the College & Career Center. Please follow the directions at the link above to sign up. Students in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend college visits.

FRESHMAN: It is not typical for students in 9th grade to attend college visits unless there is a college they are exceptionally interested in.

Northshore Schools Foundation: Request for Removing Barriers Support

Basic Needs Aid
When a family is in crisis and normal household activities are disrupted, students experience distress that affects their attendance, coursework and classroom behavior. NSF's Basic Needs Aid Fund allows families to stock up on groceries or fill the car with fuel so that they can direct their energy where it is most needed: finding a permanent solution to the situation at hand (https://www.northshoreschoolsfoundation.org/request-support/#basicneedsaid).

Apply for Funds

For WHS students, contact Counselor and CARE Team member Sarah Brenner at sbrenner@nsd.org and/or your student’s school counselor or grade-level administrator to describe the temporary challenge or circumstance and request support. All NSF funding requests must come from an approved school staff member.

The NSD staff member will then submit your request.

Foundation leadership will review the request within 5 days and contact the NSD staff that submitted the request with details.
School Photos Retake Day October 21.

All students must have a WHS ID card picture taken.  The WHS photo ID card is free of charge.  Students must carry photo ID at school and at extra-curricular activities at all times.

All photo packages will be mailed home.

Retake day will be Thursday, October 21 during both lunches.

Picture packages may be ordered online at dorianstudio.com and searching for Woodinville High School.

Lost Cards

If a student loses an ID/ASB card, check at the Main Office as often they are turned in.  If the card cannot be found, lost ID/ASB cards can be replaced for $5.00 at the Cashier's Office.  ASB membership can be purchased for $60.
Misprinted Cards
If for some reason a student's ID card is missing the Woodinville logo, has a wrong student number, name or wrong image, please stop by the Cashier's Office, as well, for a reprint free of charge.

Vaccine Clinic for Secondary Students: Registration required in advance

As Dr. Reid announced in her September 16 "Thursday Thoughts", the Northshore School District will begin another round of mobile vaccines starting Monday, September 20 for middle and high school students.

Multiple teams from the Shoreline Fire Department will administer the Pfizer vaccine for all students who are 12 years of age and older and would like to be vaccinated. Please know that the COVID-19 vaccination is not mandated by the District.

Families who are interested in having their student receive the Pfizer vaccine at one of these clinics, must complete a registration formRegistration must be submitted by noon the day before the scheduled date for each clinic. Woodinville High School's clinic dates are: 1st Dose September 28; 2nd Dose October 19, with the clinic time from 12:30-1:30pm for both doses. In order to plan accordingly, all registrations for Monday’s clinics on September 20 (both are not at WHS) must be submitted by noon on Sunday, September 19.

Per Dr. Reid's message, if a clinic isn’t scheduled at a student’s school, families can register them for the vaccine at another school. Students attending the clinic, who are not already learning in-person on the designated campus, need to arrive within the first 30 minutes of the scheduled clinic time to ensure there is enough time to administer the vaccine and have at least a 15-minute waiting period after receiving the dose.

More information can be found on the district's Vaccine Clinics for Secondary Students webpage.

COVID-19 Testing for Woodinville High School

On Monday, September 20, the Northshore School District will launch the COVID-19 testing program for all students grades K-12. All students will be tested weekly, unless a parent or guardian completes an opt-out form. As the name “batch” suggests, everyone in a classroom or cohort puts their test samples together in a batch vial with no names or personally identifiable information.

A few key points to emphasize:
   * Students in Grades K-12 will test weekly.
   * Your child will be tested unless you opt out your child by clicking on this link.
   * The opt out form asks you to enter your student’s ID number. This can be found on each student’s identification card above the barcode, as well as on the student’s report card. You can also view it by logging in to ParentVUE or by contacting the school’s main office.
   * If you wish to opt your student out of testing, you must complete the opt-out form no later than 10 a.m. the day before our school’s scheduled test day which is Wednesdays.
   * If a student or staff member is opted out of testing, but their cohort has a positive COVID test result, they may still be required to quarantine for 14 days.

Your student’s participation will help us keep transmissions in our school buildings low so we can keep school buildings open.
Thank you for your consideration.

NSD COVID-19
Handbook

The COVID Handbook has been updated and reflects NSD's current practices. Please read through this information carefully so that we can work together to keep our students, staff, and families safe. NSD will continue to monitor evolving pandemic data along with state and federal requirements to update this handbook as appropriate. You can find the link to the NSD COVID-19 Handbook here

WHS Sporting Events-Spectator Mask Requirement

As of Tuesday, September 7, King County* began requiring masks, regardless of vaccination status, for everyone ages 5+ at outdoor events with 500 or more people, and continue to be required in public indoor spaces. This includes spectators at WHS sporting events. Additionally, all competitions at Pop Keeney Stadium require spectators to wear masks regardless of capacity. We appreciate and thank all students, parents, guardians, and guests, in advance, for keeping safety at the forefront by adhering to the requirement and wearing a mask except when actively eating or drinking.

We love the spirit our community contributes supporting and cheering on the Falcons. We hope this measure will play a part in continuing that tradition while also keeping our schools open and our students, families, and community healthy.

Thank you for your partnership.

*As of September 13, a State requirement was also announced by Governor Inslee.
Bus Passes 2021-2022

Please be advised that bus passes are not approved for the first month and a half of school (near the end of October). Transportation needs time to properly assess available seats.
Attendance News & Changes for Early Dismissals
Our student day is from 8:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. and WHS expects all students to attend school every day.  Below are a few highlights of our attendance policy and procedures:
  • Absences must be excused within two (2) school days of the absence or students will be assigned progressive discipline.
  • Ten hours of excused and/or unexcused absences in a semester in a given class may result in going through the Attendance Validation process.
  • When a student accumulates three (3) or more days of unexcused absences it will result in a conference with administration.
  • If a student misses more than 15 minutes of class, it is considered an absence
  • If a student requires an early dismissal, the student needs to come to the Attendance Office before school or during Options with a parent/guardian signed request. We are no longer accepting phone calls or emails for early dismissal to limit classroom interuptions.
  • Students who arrive late to school (both excused and unexcused) must check in at the Attendance Office for a pass before proceeding to class.
Please refer to the WHS Website’s Attendance Page and/or the WHS Student Handbook for more details or contact the Attendance Office at 425.408.7410 or whsattendance@nsd.org.
